When it comes to fundraising projects, Volunteers for Youth wants you to pull up a chair.
This March, the Claremore-based nonprofit will be bringing back it’s annual “Chair-ity” Auction event to benefit the young people in and around Rogers County.
“Volunteers for Youth is a group comprised of community leaders who are committed to providing services for the young people in Rogers County,” said Kassie McCoy, event co-chair. “These services and programs are funded by events such as the annual Chair-ity Auction and has been one that’s especially popular.
“This year’s event will continue with the ‘Roaring 20s’ theme that’s been such a big hit in recent years, with a few new surprises this year,” she continued.
The fun-filled event will include both a silent and live auction, with a large variety of items available to bid on, from personal gear to home décor, from entertainment packages to various services, and more. Regional individuals, organizations, and businesses donate a variety of goods and/or services to be auctioned off, and, as implied by the name, an assortment of unique, one-of-a-kind chairs, benches, and other furniture items also will be among the items up for bid.
Presently, the event committee is actively seeking both live and silent auction items, which may include (but aren’t restricted to) hand-crafted furniture, specialty home décor items, football tickets, lake house getaways, or any other valuable auction item.
In addition, the event committee also is seeking event sponsorships, which are available on three tiers:
Platinum Sponsorship -- $500, and includes eight admission tickets, a VIP table, a Sponsor Appreciation Perpetual Plaque, and eight drink tickets
Gold Sponsorship -- $300, and includes four admission tickets, four drink tickets and a sponsor appreciation plaque
Silver Sponsorship -- $200, and includes four admission tickets and four drink tickets
But for all the fun to be had at the event, more important is the purpose it serves, according to Shirley Anne Gilliam, the event co-chair.
“There are many children in Claremore and Rogers County who are in need, who are hurting, and I feel strongly that each of us has a responsibility to these children – the children in our community,” Gilliam said. “This fundraiser benefits Volunteers for Youth, which is a way for us to help these children, to reach out to them, and allow them to get the help they need through the programs offered by Volunteers for Youth.”
Volunteers for Youth is a local organization that strives to impact the lives of Rogers County youth by offering a site-based mentoring program, an after school program for 6th-8th graders, a healthy living program impacting schools, community organizations, municipalities and businesses and prevention programs aimed at prescription drug misuse, underage drinking and tobacco. Each Volunteers for Youth program strives to build confidence, character and competence in our young people.
The Volunteers for Youth’s ultimate mission is to help Rogers County youth be safe and successful.
“This event offers a great opportunity for members of the community and the public to get involved, to share their creativity while supporting our youth-serving programs,” Gilliam said. “Through donating to the auctions or participating in them, or simply through ticket purchases, you can make a difference in the lives of the young people in Rogers County. Volunteers for Youth helps ensure the youth in our community have the best opportunity for the best future.”
The Volunteers for Youth’s Chair-ity Auction will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at the Claremore Convention Center. Tickets are now on sale and available for purchase at the Volunteers for Youth office, the Claremore Chamber of Commerce, and the Claremore Community Center. Tickets also may be purchased at the door for $35 each or $60 for two.
