October 2016: Claremore Area Chamber of Commerce will host the first ever Sporting Clay Shoot on Friday, October 28, at Long Shot Ranch located west of Skiatook. Sponsors for this exciting event are Bill’s Sporting Goods, RCB Bank, BancFirst, Hillcrest Hospital/Claremore, HydroHoist Boat Lifts and TNG Power Equipment.
Team and Individual Registration forms are currently available. Registration deadline is October 21, 2016. Visit the Chamber’s Website to download registration forms or call the Chamber office for more information.
Brian Callender of the Claremore Area Chamber is the Committe Chairman. He says, “The Long Shot Ranch Range is known for some extremely challenging stations and shooters have said they always have a fun time vying for ‘bragging rights’ following each outing.”
This year’s Sporting Clay event will include 12 stations. Entry fee for 100 clays is $125 per individual or $400 per four-man team. Each shooter will receive 100 clays and must provide their own eye and ear protection, a range requirement. Each participant must also provide their own shotgun in the gauge of choice plus four boxes of shot shells. If a shooter desires, he or she may buy up to two mulligans at a cost of $10 each. If you plan to buy mulligans, be sure to bring extra shot shells. And if you’re clueless as to what a mulligan is, it’s a missed shot that, against the rules, a participant is allowed to take again. Or, simply put, a little insurance!
Shooters may also participate in an additional shooting event called a flurry. The flurry competition is $25 per shooter. Each person will be given five clay targets released in rapid succession. The obvious goal is to break as many as you can!
Prior to kicking off the Sporting Clay Shoot festivities and competition, each participant will be required to attend a Shooter Safety Meeting. A continental breakfast and lunch is covered by your registration fee, and there will be soft beverage stations throughout the clays course. Award plaques will be presented to the top three teams, Best Senior Shooter, High Overall Shooter, and the Best Flurry Shooter.
