2016 Art in Transit bus winner by Douglas Henderson.

The artists have given their best, and now Tulsa Transit and Transit Advertising, Inc. will apply the winning art to one bus and several benches and shelters around Tulsa. Douglas Henderson is the grand prize winner of the Art in Transit contest with a stylized Harley-Davidson motorcycle photography design. Soon, motorists and riders will catch his mobile creation throughout the city.
The winning bus design unveiling took place at the Myers-Duren Harley-Davidson dealership located at 4848 S. Peoria in Tulsa on Tuesday, February 16.
Henderson has been an artist for as “long as he can remember.” His professional photography career began in 1985, and he achieved international recognition for his photography of the Oklahoma City bombing which appeared in Newsweek, Newsweek Japan and other publications. He is a photography teacher and an author of Photoshop/digital photography textbooks. Henderson’s portfolio is available at:
www.douglashenderson.com.
Using one of his photographs, Henderson’s winning design transforms a standard bus into an eye-catching 1948 Panhead Harley-Davidson motorcycle. From front to back, riders and motorists will see a gorgeous American classic.
“What could be more cool, more beautiful, more American, more funky, more eye-catching than an old Harley? How about an old Harley blown up to 35 feet long and 8 feet high?” Henderson said.
Local artist and previous winner, Randy Riggs, a 33-year-old Tulsa-area native, will have his art displayed on bus shelters and benches as well. While he didn’t win the grand prize, his JJ Cale tribute designs will also be featured on select shelters and benches in the Tulsa area.
“We are thankful to everyone who participated in this year’s Art in Transit competition,” said Danny Sadler, AcrobatAnt co-owner and creative director. “Every year we are amazed by the quality of entries we receive for this contest. Tulsa is truly a hub for talented artists.”
AcrobatAnt, LLC, Tulsa Transit, Transit Advertising, Inc. and all the sponsors of Art in Transit would like to thank everyone who entered this year’s contest.
