Kick off spring and Earth Day Weekend with Tulsa Garden Club’s 68th Annual Garden Tour, 10am-5pm, Saturday, April 21, 2018. Our community’s longest running educational garden tour will benefit Tulsa Garden Center’s restoration projects for The Mansion at Woodward Park. The Mansion turns 100 in 2019 and is ready for some hard-earned maintenance!
Growing Flowers and Friendships through Gardens will highlight five south Tulsa gardens and two interiors. Each is beautiful and unique, with specimens in ornamental, herbal, and edible plantings. The gardens are diverse in their formality and design, incorporating natural and functional hardscape, water features, lighting, and some innovative engineering to manage elevation and drainage challenges.
From Braeswood south off 61st Street between Harvard and Yale avenues to 106th Street and Joplin Avenue just west of Sheridan, gardening enthusiasts will enjoy a springtime day in Green Country.
Outdoors living and a love of nature are important to the homeowners who share their gardens during this year’s tour. The Riddles, at 3702 East 63rd Street, utilize their pool and outdoor kitchen for gatherings and encourage meandering and reflecting along stone pathways. Visitors may exit through the beautifully-decorated breezeway. The DeKraais live around the corner at 6224 South Oswego Avenue and have created a backyard haven complete with a hand-stacked-stone fireplace and an expansive deck for nearly year-round living.
The Ankersheils, 8436 South Braden Avenue, creatively (and extensively!) engineered their Signal Hill garden to accommodate 100-year rains from the hilltop above with tons of stone and plantings. The Longs built their own mini-farm at 7107 East 93rd Street in just six months complete with fruits, vegetables, and herbs—and a tiny flock of hens, each bearing the name of a beloved family member. The Rothenbuchers, 10509 South Joplin Avenue, fell in love with their Colonial Williamsburg-inspired home. Note authentic features, enter via the classic blue door and pass the magnificent staircase, through the dining room, kitchen, and breakfast room to the restful back garden.
$10 advance tickets are available at Tulsa Garden Center, 2435 South Peoria Avenue, or on Eventbrite, https://www.eventbrite.com/e/68th-annual-garden-tour-tickets-43443060363. $15 tickets are at the featured gardens Tour day. Children ages 12 and under are free.
