If a roaring twenties, Gatsby-styled gala sounds fun then you’ll want to make plans to attend Volunteers for Youth’s 6th annual “Chair-ity” Auction on March 2nd.   Upcycled vintage furnishings and functionally revived cast-offs will go home with the high bidders along with a few “experiences” that capture the hearts and wallets of the more adventurous.

“We have major reasons to celebrate this year and the community is encouraged to join our celebration and attend the gala starting at 6:30 p.m. on March 2nd at the Claremore Conference Center.  We recently entered into a working partnership with Rogers County Youth Services and relocated our office to a larger shared space with RCYS at 1810 N Sioux,” said Mendy Stone, Community Liaison.  “Our missions around serving the youth of Rogers County align and we are stronger working together which is cause for celebration,” added Stone.

Skilled craftsmen, Pinterest enthusiasts and anyone with a creative idea is encouraged to contact Volunteers for Youth to donate live auction items.  Past events have featured hand-crafted rocking horses, barn wood farm tables, pallet furniture,  beds and dressers turned into benches, patio bars, a piano-turned-wine-bar and carved cedar benches just to name a few.

“My project is exactly what we describe as a ‘revived castoff’.  I found an Adirondack chair in an alley and when I couldn’t get it into my SUV, I called up my best friend and had her come and put it in the back of her pickup truck. Since it’s a little beyond my talent level, the Adirondack chair will be taken from trash to treasure by Studio B Artworks owner, Barbara “Barbie” Rodriquez,” said Stone.

“This event is really a reflection of our work,” said Stone.  Like the youth we serve, each auction item is unique and one-of-a-kind and only in need of an investment of a little time and attention,” Stone added.

A silent auction will include items of interest to men and women of all ages with packages to fit all wallet sizes.  The evening’s theme will be carried out with 20s era decorations, drinks, clothing and music.  While period attire for attendees is not mandatory, it is encouraged and “best dressed” awards will be given.

Ticket prices ($35 each or two for $56) include a full dinner and are available by contacting Volunteers for Youth at 918-343-2530.  Tickets may also be purchased at the Claremore Chamber of Commerce or the Claremore Community Center.  Ticket prices are $35 each or two for $60.  Event proceeds help to fund the PAL Mentoring Program which is 100% supported by local giving.
