Don’t miss one of the eight productions of “Proof” during the week of Easter at Victory Church.
For more than 20 years, the Easter Production at Victory Church has been an annual tradition in the Tulsa area, drawing thousands to see the Easter story portrayed onstage.
Victory annually tells the story of Easter through a multimedia, theatrical production and in recent years, there has been a unique script each Easter. Creative Media Director John Daugherty believes this year’s production, entitled “Proof,” is the church’s best yet.
“In this day in age, there’s a lot of CGI and explosions in movies and you don’t have to have a good story. Entertainment is at the grasp of your hands with your smartphone, but the thing that is lacking is the story. This year’s story, meshed with the entertainment value, is the best we’ve ever done.”
“Proof” features hundreds of cast and crew members who have spent months planning and rehearsing for the production.
The production will feature more than 180 actors, as well as another 50 volunteers working behind the scenes. The process of pulling together the performance began back in December.
“We have seen it grow every year,” Daugherty said. “We believe it’s more than just a play. I love calling it an experience.”
This year, Victory will offer the community eight opportunities to see the production, —April 17-19 at 7 p.m., April 20 at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. and Easter Sunday at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
“We definitely put effort into the art of it, but at the same time everyone has a pretty good understanding that it’s bigger than these four days and these eight shows,” he said. “People are able to interpret it for wherever they’re at in life or wherever they stand in how they view God,” Daugherty said. “What we have realized is we don’t have events. We don’t have productions; we use them. We want people to have an experience where they come face-to-face with the presence of God.”
For those that attend the 11 a.m. performance Saturday, April 20, they also have the opportunity to participate in a free Family Easter Egg Hunt following the production. The event features 100,000 eggs with hunts for all ages groups and special needs children.
Daugherty says the heart behind this annual event, and any event that Victory Church hosts, is to “Love God and Love People.”
“Proof” is a reimagination of what God did the week that Jesus was crucified, buried and rose from the dead and how it changed the world forever.
“Someone asked Jesus, ‘What is the most important thing that I should do in my life?’ Because there are so many rules and when you look at the Bible there are so many pages and so many words, and Jesus said ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart,’ and then, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ So what we have realized is we want people to know that we love God and love people, and when they come here, they leave knowing that their best days are right in front of them.”
Admission is free, and child care is provided for children ages birth to 5 years old during each production. The full trailer for “Proof” can be viewed at
