Beautiful things abound in Cari Bohannan’s delightful boutique tucked away on Main Street in Claremore. Offerings tend toward toward a more elegant, classic yet freespirited vibe with a decidedly boho brightness while still maintaining the subtle red dirt flavor that Oklahoma women rock so well.
For those who adore the aesthetic of Anthropologie, they will find The District on Main a homegrown, more accessible answer to its artful, eclectic aura. “One of our biggest goals has always been to carry things in Claremore that you can’t get anywhere else, even to carry things that are hard to find in Tulsa,” Bohannan emphasized, a goal the store has easily achieved.
The boutique is a garden of sartorial delights, offering clothing and accessory selections from coveted brands including Frye, Kate Spade, Lilly Pulitzer, and the store’s newest addition, Free People. The collection is carefully curated by the owner, each piece individually chosen at market for its fabric, texture, weight, and beauty, every item inspired. Bohannan interacts with each piece before choosing it, explaining, “When I attend market, I have to feel and touch everything...I want people to feel good with what they are wearing.”
This translates to light, layerable pieces made from the most blissfully wearable textiles.
The staff radiate with the shop’s bright energy, chatting knowledgably about the lines they carry, recommending beautiful pieces with ease. Here, elevating things abound. Think handcrafted, locally-made candles; artisan soaps; colorful pom pom keychains from Norman-based designer Taylor Elliot.
A rustic shelf boasts a line of tobacco-infused candles reminescent of the back porch on a country evening (Tobacco and Amber is everything). Hand-stamped necklaces bear the latitude and longitude of Claremore for those who want to keep home near their heart wherever they travel. An endcap brims with a line of all-natural laundry butters with names like Mam’Aaw Margee (lavender lemongrass), Grandam Madeline (citrus linen), Aunt Carol (ylang-ylang orange eucalyptus), and Pappy Jerry (unscented).
Everywhere the earthiness of The District’s Oklahoma roots is evident, replete with artisanship and style. “We love to find new made-in-Oklahoma products,” Bohannan explained, citing Main Street’s reputation as a shopping destination. “It’s nice to be able to offer something that’s made right here.”
But the boutique is as much Coachella as it is country. The new Free People line with its soft, layered look well-situated next to Rustic Cuff and Brighton. This little boutique is more than worth the drive from Tulsa to make your new go-to for wardrobe staples and gifts alike.
