Learn to make holiday gifts with OHCE at their Happy Holidays Gift Ideas Event.

Choosing the perfect gift is always a challenge; creating the perfect gift can be doubly so.
While handmade gifts are a thoughtful gesture, they can end up an overwhelming task with underwhelming results. One way to avoid the utter shame and embarrassment of giving Uncle Carlos the same pet rock you’ve been making and sending every year since 1986, join the good folks of the Oklahoma Home & Community Education (OHCE) for their Happy Holiday Gift  Ideas Event.
Started during the Great Depression to help families manage their homes, the OHCE, sponsored by OSU Extension, evolved and grew into an organization with membership throughout Oklahoma. Members participate in and organize a multitude of classes, lessons, and community service projects with varied topics including gardening, cooking, crafting, and even yoga.
This year’s event, hosted by Memorial United Methodist Church at 15th & Memorial Dr., will provide participants with information on how to create a variety of thoughtful gifts appropriate throughout the gift-giving season, from fun Halloween decorations to cooking whole Maine lobster and incorporating it into a delectable, mouth-watering lobster mac ’n cheese.
The day will consist of 11 demos led by OHCE members and select non-members with particular and valuable skillsets. A master gardener is slated to lead a segment with information on decorating your home for the holidays and using your imagination to revive old things you’ve kept into a new use.
The event will also offer segments on creating autumn crafts with mason jars, custom trail mix, gummy bears, the aforementioned lobster mac, and even a fancy rock painting demo so you’d finally be able to update Uncle Carlos’ gift and finally make him proud. While no crafts or food will be produced at the event, attendees will leave with all the information needed to handle the holiday season stress-free and in style.
The registration deadline is October 18, so register early. The event, held on October 23, is open to the public and will only set you back a mere $12 including lunch. While you feed your spirit and your appetite, members will be available to discuss the benefits of joining OHCE. After all that rock painting, an Oklahoma Home & Community Education membership is the perfect gift for yourself.
