By, Macy Goodnight; The holidays will be looking different in many different ways this year, but forging a path to safer celebratory soirees makes anything possible.  The Rose District in Broken Arrow is famous for their festive family fun, and the 2020 holiday season will be no exception!

It’s a Wonderful Life in Broken Arrow will kick off the city’s holiday traditions, with precautions in place to ensure a successful and safe event for the whole family.  On Thursday, November 19, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Main Street Merchants’ Association will host an evening filled with cheer and wonder as they launch the holiday season in The Rose District! The Tree Lighting Ceremony and lights on will begin at 6 p.m., at the Rose District Pavilion, 418 S. Main Street.  Visits with Santa will take place, but Santa and the kids will sit in their own, brand new, socially distanced sleighs! Photos will be available for purchase, and there will be a virtual queue to avoid long lines.  Live performers will be singing holiday music, and the event will also launch the opening of the Broken Arrow Ice Rink.  The District is magically adorned with festive décor and twinkling lights. The streets from Commerce to Dallas will be blocked on Main Street to provide seating for dining with the restaurants there and allow for social distancing.

“We’ve had this tradition for over 25 years,” said MSMA Vice President Patsy Terry.  “We pair up with the city and keep the Rose District vibrant and bright.  We’re so proud of it all.”  Patsy is also the owner of Arrow Flowers and Gifts, one of the original shops on Main since 1954.

An exciting addition to the festivities this year is the introduction of A Winter Wonderland by District Merchant, 1907.  The Boutique will have locally sourced, organic Christmas trees for sale in front of the store, as well as Christmas lights and cocoa.  The shop is also a great place for gifts!

Each of the Merchants on Main will have something special to offer.  A Merchant Decorating Contest winner will also be recognized during the event.

“We just welcome everyone to come down and enjoy our hospitality and kick off the holiday season,” said Patsy.  “It really is a wonderful life living in Broken Arrow.”
