Turn Tulsa Blue Event

November Diabetes Awareness Month

Sunday, November 14, 2021, 5 o’clock p.m.

Guthrie Green, Tulsa, Oklahoma

Guthrie Green will turn blue at sunset to signify the unity of the global diabetes community in response to the diabetes epidemic.

Mayor Bynum’s City of Tulsa proclamation for diabetes awareness will be read by Doug Dodd, Tulsan, former Chair of the Board of The American Diabetes Association on Guthrie Green’s blue lit stage. Kim Koleber, Advocacy Chair of The Oklahoma Legislative Diabetes Caucus shares, “she’s thrilled Doug has agreed to be a part of this inaugural event in our beautiful city of Tulsa!”

Kim has a daughter who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes a month before her third birthday. For over the past 20+ years she and her family have advocated for all who live with diabetes. She has organized this event despite the pandemic and the need to scale back having persons with diabetes and their loved ones attend.

Oklahoma Blood Institute’s bloodmobile will also be onsite from 2-6 p.m. Each donor’s blood donation will receive a free hemoglobin A1C test that measures your average blood sugar levels over the past 3 months. It’s one of the commonly used tests to diagnose prediabetes. This testing will provide data which will hopefully yield better health awareness for Oklahomans.

In addition to Guthrie Green turning blue, The Tulsa Performing Arts Center, First Oklahoma Bank Jenks and the fountain at Veteran’s Park Broken Arrow will be turning blue as well.
