Women of Song, Writers in the Round

April 24, 2021

Join Monica Taylor, Mallory Eagle and Ken Pomeroy for an afternoon of great music in downtown Jenks TULSA, Okla. -April 21, 2021 – It’s been said, “there must be something in the water” when it comes to the massive musical talent tied to the State of Oklahoma. The list is long and the list is impressive. Names like Bob Wills, Gene Autry, Woody Guthrie, Merle Haggard, Reba McEntire, Roy Clark, Wanda Jackson, Vince Gill, Garth Brooks, Sandi Patty, JJ Cale, Jean Shepard, The Flaming Lips, Chet Baker, Hanson, The Gap Band, Leon Russell, Carrie Underwood and of course Blake Shelton. This extensive list however only scratches the surface, so when Nashville Artist Manager and former Record Label Executive Brenda Cline moved back to her home state of Oklahoma in 2015, she began to pursue her dream to pay homage to the great women entertainers of Oklahoma through the “Women of Song: The Heart and Spirit of Oklahoma” project. The “Women of Song” (WOS) project is multi-faceted. First, and foremost is to honor the female singers and songwriters at all professional levels. From young artists tirelessly working on their careers to artists who have had successful careers that deserve to be recognized and esteemed. Several of the WOS artists have been inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame and Oklahoma Hall of Fame. As a special memorial, WOS proudly pays tribute to three amazing and beloved female artists whose lives were tragically cut short, Gus Hardin, Debbie Campbell and Betsy Smittle. This prestigious group of women are some of Oklahoma’s finest ranging in age and musical genres and deserve to be celebrated. These are “The Women of Song.” Ann Bell - Debbie Campbell - Kellie Coffey - Gail Davies - Mallory Eagle - Kayln Fay - Cherokee Maidens - Marty Fields Galloway - Gus Hardin - Becky Hobbs - Jana Jae - Leigh Madison - Jennifer Marriot - Ken Pomeroy - Gracee Shriver - Betsy Smittle - Adley Stump - Monica Taylor “I have always been an advocate for women in the music business because traditionally it has been much more difficult to get recognition than men. Combine that with my love for Oklahoma and the outstanding talent that has evolved from here, this project is something I knew in my heart I had to accomplish.” Brenda Cline - Executive Producer and Creator “Women of Song: The Heart and Spirit of Oklahoma Cline’s plans are to produce a compilation album, music video and a documentary. She has assembled an esteemed team making up the Women of Song Advisory Board. These individuals come from various professions and backgrounds. Handpicked by Cline, the board members are involved in various aspects of the long-range projects associated with WOS and all share Cline’s vision to champion women in the music arena and bring exposure to the immeasurable talent that emerges out of the state of Oklahoma. “Some of my biggest influences in my career have been Oklahoma female artists. As a kid I loved Wanda Jackson’s “Let’s Have a Party” and Debbie Campbell’s soulful singing blew me away. To this day, I’ll never forget the first time I heard Gus Hardin and Ann Bell sing. There are many more that have made their mark, and so many young female artists coming up making a name for themselves. I am so honored to be a part of the Women of Song! I’m so grateful to Brenda Cline for all her hard work and bringing us together.” Becky Hobbs From the conception of the Women of Song project to its public launch this Saturday, April 24th at the increasingly popular Maggie’s Music Box in Jenks, Cline experienced many challenges, most notably the shutdown this past year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. With things starting to open up and the artists roster complete she is forging ahead with the artists, board members and community excitedly behind her. Kevin Wayne Smith owner of the newest music hotspot in downtown Jenks was happy to throw his support behind the WOS project and has set aside the last Saturday of every month from 3:30-5:30pm to showcase the ‘Women of Song, Writers In the Round’ event. The first WOS performance Saturday will be hosted by the Red Dirt Cimarron Songbird herself, Monica Taylor, sharing the stage with the amazing talent of Mallory Eagle and Ken Pomeroy. These three incredibly gifted Women of Song are the very essence of Cline’s dream to honor and expose the immense talent constantly emerging from the state of Oklahoma. “I’m honored to be a part of the Oklahoma Women of Song project! The roster is full of hardworking, genuine artists in music and each have many other artistic talents as well. I get to share the stage with two young women who have written wonderful song’s and they are also business minded. Mallory and I have the roots of Oklahoma and same taste in musicians! I’m excited to get to listen to her songs and maybe sing along, too. Ken has been a strong and graceful presence in my Red Dirt family for 2-3 years and I love her songs and stage presence! We are going to sing along with each on a few songs I believe, too... I do love singing with other women, as anyone knows who knows me! (The Cherokee Maidens & Sycamore Swing.)” Monica Taylor Looking ahead, Cline is thrilled that the Women of Song events will be filmed and later used in a documentary that will showcase the exceptional talents of these Oklahoma treasures where people can learn a little more about them, their journey and their Oklahoma ties. Cline is proud of her Oklahoma roots and impressive Cherokee heritage which she has recently discovered. Many of the Women of Song artists and advisory team are of Cherokee heritage and Cline plans on honoring that in the upcoming documentary as it is a rich part of Oklahoma’s history as well.

Pet Food Drive & Adoption Event

May 10-14, 2021 May 15, 2021 | 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Dave's RV in Claremore is hosting a Pet Adoption and Pet Food Drive! Dave’s RV will be collecting bags of dog and cat food the entire month of May. The bags must be new and unopened. Everyone that brings in a 30 lb. bag or more of dog or cat food will receive their choice of $500 off the purchase of an RV, or 15% off parts. Dave's has partnered with Oklahoma Alliance for Animals, Skiatook Paws & Claws and Zoi’s Animal Rescue for this event. Come out and help the dogs and cats find their forever homes. All food collected will be evenly distributed between the three organizations. Last fall they collected over 4,000 pounds of food! Oklahoma Alliance for Animals is a Tulsa based 501c3 nonprofit collaborative organization established in 2004. OAA’s primary purpose is to bring together the people and resources needed to overcome pet homelessness, abuse and neglect. Oklahoma Alliance for Animals is dedicated to reducing pet overpopulation, encouraging responsible pet ownership and promoting the humane treatment of animals through community collaboration and education. Zoi's Animal Rescue although founded in 2005, the seed was planted several years before when Mike and Debbie Stellas rescued two lab puppies from being euthanized. They both had severe mange and the female had a birth defect, which made her left front leg deformed. They were named Zeke and Zoi (Zoi in Greek means "life".) Because of Zeke and Zoi, Debbie and Mike decided to start Zoi's Animal Rescue. Since 2005, ZAR has rescued and adopted out over1000 dogs and cats. Zoi’s is a 501(c)(3) non-profit all-breed animal rescue group that is based in Claremore, OK. Skiatook Paws & Claws was formed in October of 2013 by a young lady who had a dream to make her local animal control facility a "no-kill" shelter by pulling every deemed adoptable dog and cat and adopting them out to loving forever homes. She teamed up with two of her friends and together, they formed what SPACAR is today. We have found homes for over 2,000 animals in our surrounding area and have successfully kept the Skiatook animal control facility no-kill for four years. They are currently in the process of becoming an official 501c3 organization. Food can be dropped off at Dave’s RV throughout the entire month of May. To wrap up the Pet Food Drive, Oklahoma Animal Alliance, Zoi’s and Skiatook Paws & Claws will be on site from 11:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday, May 15th with adoptable cats and dogs.

City of Broken Arrow – Block Party and Branding Reveal for New Orleans Square

July 1, 2021 | 4 - 9 p.m.

New Orleans Square is hosting the first annual Block Party! Summary: The City of Broken Arrow is hosting the first annual Block Party in New Orleans Square. This Block Party is going to be a family friendly and fun filled time with a steak cook-off, car show, kid’s zone, live music, food trucks, vendors, and the grand finale will be a firework show! The most exciting component of the Block Party will be the unveiling of the logo and branding for New Orleans Square. The City of Broken Arrow contracted BrandEra to help form a logo and brand for the New Orleans and Elm area. Having this branding will help to create an identity for this intersection and therefore increase growth and traffic. With the guidance of BrandEra and the City Council, we are very excited to unveil this logo. It will be a big night for the square! “New Orleans Square is in the beginning stages of rebranding & the revitalization of this area is already happening on every corner!” said Christi Gillespie, Vice Mayor and City Councilor for Ward 3, which includes New Orleans Square. “I am thrilled the merchants of New Orleans Square are partnering with the city to hold this Patriotic Block Party, which is sure to be an annual occurrence. Bring your family & friends & join us as we kick off the holiday weekend on July 1, complete with a steak cook-off and family-friendly activities, including a fireworks finale!” The Steak Cookoff Association is sanctioning the steak cook-off portion of the event providing judges and expertise. Register today and you could win $1,000! For more information and to sign up go to steakcookoffs.com. Come out, enjoy a patriotic evening, and help Broken Arrow look forward to the future of New Orleans Square! Located at the Northwest quadrant at the intersection of E New Orleans St and S Elm Pl

Panera Bread Honors Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Pink Ribbon Bagel

October 1, 2021 | 9 a.m.

Kickoff event on Friday, October 1st at Panera Bread with Komen Oklahoma 100% of Pink Ribbon Bagel sales in the Tulsa area to benefit Komen Oklahoma on Friday, October 15 Tulsa, October 1, 2021 – Panera Bread is once again joining the fight against breast cancer by baking its signature Pink Ribbon Bagels®, a staple every October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 2021 marks the 20th anniversary of the Pink Ribbon Bagel, and over that time Panera Bread bakery-cafes have sold over 20 million Pink Ribbon Bagels and have raised over $4 million for breast cancer charities nationwide. This year’s Pink Ribbon Bagel fundraising efforts begin with a special kickoff event on Friday, October 1 at 9 am at the Panera Bread bakery-café at 10752 S Memorial Drive at The Vineyard on Memorial Shopping Center. Throughout October, 25¢ from each Pink Ribbon Bagel sold at Panera Bread bakery-cafés in the Tulsa area will be donated to Susan G. Komen Oklahoma to support its mission and programs. Additionally, on Friday, October 15, Panera Bread will donate 100% of all Tulsa area Pink Ribbon Bagel sales to Susan G. Komen Oklahoma. “Panera Bread in Oklahoma is honored to work alongside our customers to once again support Susan G. Komen Oklahoma in this annual October campaign,” said Brian Camey, President of the local Panera Bread franchisee. “We are proud to offer the Pink Ribbon Bagel as a way to help raise funds and awareness for the cause during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.” Shaped in the form of the iconic breast cancer pink ribbon, the Pink Ribbon Bagel features cherry chips, dried cherries and cranberries, vanilla, honey, and brown sugar, and is baked fresh each morning by Panera’s bakers at each bakery-café. The Pink Ribbon Bagel was conceived in 2001 when Panera Bread franchisee, Tulsa’s own Sue Stees, who is now a 37-year breast cancer survivor, began searching for ways to help other women fighting the same disease. Her search led her to the development of the Pink Ribbon Bagel. She sold 27,000 bagels in her bakery-cafes the first year and the idea was taken nationwide by Panera Bread, LLC shortly after. There are numerous ways to purchase a Pink Ribbon Bagel. Guests can purchase bagels by visiting their local Panera Bread bakery-café, placing a catering order, or ordering online for Rapid Pick-up or Delivery. Orders can be placed online at www.panerabead.com or by using the Panera Bread app. About Panera Bread The Traditional Bakery, Inc. / Oklahoma City Bakery, Inc. franchise organization owns and operates 23 Panera Bread bakery-café locations in Missouri and Oklahoma.
