Join Monica Taylor, Mallory Eagle and Ken Pomeroy for an afternoon of great music in downtown Jenks TULSA, Okla. -April 21, 2021 – It’s been said, “there must be something in the water” when it comes to the massive musical talent tied to the State of Oklahoma. The list is long and the list is impressive. Names like Bob Wills, Gene Autry, Woody Guthrie, Merle Haggard, Reba McEntire, Roy Clark, Wanda Jackson, Vince Gill, Garth Brooks, Sandi Patty, JJ Cale, Jean Shepard, The Flaming Lips, Chet Baker, Hanson, The Gap Band, Leon Russell, Carrie Underwood and of course Blake Shelton. This extensive list however only scratches the surface, so when Nashville Artist Manager and former Record Label Executive Brenda Cline moved back to her home state of Oklahoma in 2015, she began to pursue her dream to pay homage to the great women entertainers of Oklahoma through the “Women of Song: The Heart and Spirit of Oklahoma” project. The “Women of Song” (WOS) project is multi-faceted. First, and foremost is to honor the female singers and songwriters at all professional levels. From young artists tirelessly working on their careers to artists who have had successful careers that deserve to be recognized and esteemed. Several of the WOS artists have been inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame and Oklahoma Hall of Fame. As a special memorial, WOS proudly pays tribute to three amazing and beloved female artists whose lives were tragically cut short, Gus Hardin, Debbie Campbell and Betsy Smittle. This prestigious group of women are some of Oklahoma’s finest ranging in age and musical genres and deserve to be celebrated. These are “The Women of Song.” Ann Bell - Debbie Campbell - Kellie Coffey - Gail Davies - Mallory Eagle - Kayln Fay - Cherokee Maidens - Marty Fields Galloway - Gus Hardin - Becky Hobbs - Jana Jae - Leigh Madison - Jennifer Marriot - Ken Pomeroy - Gracee Shriver - Betsy Smittle - Adley Stump - Monica Taylor “I have always been an advocate for women in the music business because traditionally it has been much more difficult to get recognition than men. Combine that with my love for Oklahoma and the outstanding talent that has evolved from here, this project is something I knew in my heart I had to accomplish.” Brenda Cline - Executive Producer and Creator “Women of Song: The Heart and Spirit of Oklahoma Cline’s plans are to produce a compilation album, music video and a documentary. She has assembled an esteemed team making up the Women of Song Advisory Board. These individuals come from various professions and backgrounds. Handpicked by Cline, the board members are involved in various aspects of the long-range projects associated with WOS and all share Cline’s vision to champion women in the music arena and bring exposure to the immeasurable talent that emerges out of the state of Oklahoma. “Some of my biggest influences in my career have been Oklahoma female artists. As a kid I loved Wanda Jackson’s “Let’s Have a Party” and Debbie Campbell’s soulful singing blew me away. To this day, I’ll never forget the first time I heard Gus Hardin and Ann Bell sing. There are many more that have made their mark, and so many young female artists coming up making a name for themselves. I am so honored to be a part of the Women of Song! I’m so grateful to Brenda Cline for all her hard work and bringing us together.” Becky Hobbs From the conception of the Women of Song project to its public launch this Saturday, April 24th at the increasingly popular Maggie’s Music Box in Jenks, Cline experienced many challenges, most notably the shutdown this past year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. With things starting to open up and the artists roster complete she is forging ahead with the artists, board members and community excitedly behind her. Kevin Wayne Smith owner of the newest music hotspot in downtown Jenks was happy to throw his support behind the WOS project and has set aside the last Saturday of every month from 3:30-5:30pm to showcase the ‘Women of Song, Writers In the Round’ event. The first WOS performance Saturday will be hosted by the Red Dirt Cimarron Songbird herself, Monica Taylor, sharing the stage with the amazing talent of Mallory Eagle and Ken Pomeroy. These three incredibly gifted Women of Song are the very essence of Cline’s dream to honor and expose the immense talent constantly emerging from the state of Oklahoma. “I’m honored to be a part of the Oklahoma Women of Song project! The roster is full of hardworking, genuine artists in music and each have many other artistic talents as well. I get to share the stage with two young women who have written wonderful song’s and they are also business minded. Mallory and I have the roots of Oklahoma and same taste in musicians! I’m excited to get to listen to her songs and maybe sing along, too. Ken has been a strong and graceful presence in my Red Dirt family for 2-3 years and I love her songs and stage presence! We are going to sing along with each on a few songs I believe, too... I do love singing with other women, as anyone knows who knows me! (The Cherokee Maidens & Sycamore Swing.)” Monica Taylor Looking ahead, Cline is thrilled that the Women of Song events will be filmed and later used in a documentary that will showcase the exceptional talents of these Oklahoma treasures where people can learn a little more about them, their journey and their Oklahoma ties. Cline is proud of her Oklahoma roots and impressive Cherokee heritage which she has recently discovered. Many of the Women of Song artists and advisory team are of Cherokee heritage and Cline plans on honoring that in the upcoming documentary as it is a rich part of Oklahoma’s history as well.

Dave's RV in Claremore is hosting a Pet Adoption and Pet Food Drive! Dave’s RV will be collecting bags of dog and cat food the entire month of May. The bags must be new and unopened. Everyone that brings in a 30 lb. bag or more of dog or cat food will receive their choice of $500 off the purchase of an RV, or 15% off parts. Dave's has partnered with Oklahoma Alliance for Animals, Skiatook Paws & Claws and Zoi’s Animal Rescue for this event. Come out and help the dogs and cats find their forever homes. All food collected will be evenly distributed between the three organizations. Last fall they collected over 4,000 pounds of food! Oklahoma Alliance for Animals is a Tulsa based 501c3 nonprofit collaborative organization established in 2004. OAA’s primary purpose is to bring together the people and resources needed to overcome pet homelessness, abuse and neglect. Oklahoma Alliance for Animals is dedicated to reducing pet overpopulation, encouraging responsible pet ownership and promoting the humane treatment of animals through community collaboration and education. Zoi's Animal Rescue although founded in 2005, the seed was planted several years before when Mike and Debbie Stellas rescued two lab puppies from being euthanized. They both had severe mange and the female had a birth defect, which made her left front leg deformed. They were named Zeke and Zoi (Zoi in Greek means "life".) Because of Zeke and Zoi, Debbie and Mike decided to start Zoi's Animal Rescue. Since 2005, ZAR has rescued and adopted out over1000 dogs and cats. Zoi’s is a 501(c)(3) non-profit all-breed animal rescue group that is based in Claremore, OK. Skiatook Paws & Claws was formed in October of 2013 by a young lady who had a dream to make her local animal control facility a "no-kill" shelter by pulling every deemed adoptable dog and cat and adopting them out to loving forever homes. She teamed up with two of her friends and together, they formed what SPACAR is today. We have found homes for over 2,000 animals in our surrounding area and have successfully kept the Skiatook animal control facility no-kill for four years. They are currently in the process of becoming an official 501c3 organization. Food can be dropped off at Dave’s RV throughout the entire month of May. To wrap up the Pet Food Drive, Oklahoma Animal Alliance, Zoi’s and Skiatook Paws & Claws will be on site from 11:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday, May 15th with adoptable cats and dogs.

Born and raised in Nashville Tennessee, Harvard graduate Caroline Randall Williams is an award-winning poet, young adult novelist, and cookbook author as well as an activist, public intellectual, performance artist, and scholar. She joined the faculty of Vanderbilt University in the Fall of 2019 as a Writer-in-Residence in Medicine, Health, and Society while she continues to work and speak to the places where art, business, and scholarship intersect, moving people closer to their best lives and corporations closer to their ideal identities. At this year's Symposium, Ms. Randall Williams will participate in a joint luncheon panel discussion that illuminates how important historical events tie into the history of places we live (with Greenwood and the Race Massacre as local models). Ms. Williams will focus on how past and current narratives help shape our collective and individual memories for purposes of preserving, honoring, and creating cultural histories, and how activism performance art, monuments, and place intersect in both preserving the past and carving a path for the future.

Vinita, Okla., March 25, 2021 (Grand Nation, Inc.) — Everyone’s favorite safety camp and kids’ fun fair is back. The fourth annual Camp Bandage — Grand Lake is set for Saturday, June 5. A free outdoor event that provides safety, health and first aid training for children of all ages, Camp Bandage - Grand Lake will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at Grand Lake RV Resort on Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees. Open to the public, Camp Bandage - Grand Lake is a family-friendly day that teaches children of all ages to put safety first and how to be ready in case of an emergency. A number of groups and organizations will be on hand during the event to educate children and demonstrate a wide variety of safety topics to them in a fun and diverse environment. During Camp Bandage, children will learn about safe outdoor recreation, water safety, health, first aid, weather, fire safety, injury and substance abuse prevention and more. They will also have the opportunity to meet and interact with first responders from the Grand Lake area, including fire, police and EMTs, as well as explore helicopters, fire trucks, police cars, ambulances, patrol boats, cranes and a fire boat. In addition to the many safety classes, demonstrations and hands-on activities, the fun will also include karaoke, dancing and games. Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, everything is free at Camp Bandage - Grand Lake, including admission, prizes, hot dogs and drinks. Beginning at 10 a.m., T-shirts will be given away to the first 500 children who arrive at Camp Bandage. The Grand Lake safety camp and kids’ fun fair is an off-shoot of Camp Bandage - Broken Arrow, which was started in 1983 by Dr. A.L. Gerner and his wife, Shirley. An annual event for more than 30 years, Camp Bandage was designed to educate the community of how common accidents and injuries could be prevented. Over the years, the Broken Arrow event has grown and expanded its focus to include all aspects of safety and disaster preparedness. Camp Bandage - Grand Lake is an extension of that growth. Camp Bandage - Grand Lake is organized by Grand Nation, a nonprofit grassroots coalition that has been serving the Grand Lake area since 2012. “A community outreach project of this magnitude fits right in with our existing substance abuse prevention program, GaDuGi,” said Jennifer Hinson, Grand Nation executive director. “For instance, we’re trying to promote Responsible Recreation on the lake. Camp Bandage - Grand Lake teaches kids about being safe on the water and being safe at home. It’s an obvious platform where we could impact hundreds of kids in one day. That was an opportunity we didn’t want to pass up.” Camp Bandage - Grand Lake will once again be hosted by Grand Lake RV Resort at 31527 South 4510 Road, Afton, Okla., on Duck Creek. “Camp Bandage is an awesome safety program for kids with lots of activities for learning,” said Dianna McIntyre, owner and operator of Grand Lake RV Resort. “We thoroughly enjoy it and think it’s a wonderful experience.” If you would like to attend Camp Bandage, be a vendor or volunteer at the event, visit CampBandage.org/GrandLake or the Grand Lake Camp Bandage Facebook page for more information. ABOUT GRAND NATION Grand Nation is a nonprofit grassroots coalition that has been serving the Grand Lake area since 2012. Tulsa Community College’s Children’s Summer Theatre presents Alice in Wonderland, a Virtual Zoom production. Tulsa Community College Tulsa Children's Summer Theatre presents a virtual production of Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll and adapted by William Glennon. It is being directed by Mark Frank. The production will be presented on Zoom July 29, 30, 31st at 7pm. The Webinar Zoom address to join the fun for free in the comfort of your own home is 929 9437 1436. There will be a set and costume design presentation at 6:30pm. This new version of Alice in Wonderland with a cast of twenty-one children ages 7-17 is so close to the original in intention and feeling that you might suspect that Lewis Carroll himself had written it. And yet, it includes many unusual and imaginative devices that bring the fantasy characters of Wonderland to life. In this new adaptation, a group of performers seeks out Alice in order to provide "her turn" in Wonderland. And, as her adventure unfolds, they play the many characters she encounters and grows to love. The play runs fifty minutes with no intermission. This is Children’s Summer Theatre’s twenty-sixth season and 8th season in Tulsa at TCC. Find us on Facebook https://fb.me/e/GG4U7BqF

The Relay For Life movement is dedicated to helping communities attack cancer. Through funds donated, time given, or awareness raised, our communities are teaming up - virtually or in person - to make a difference. When we rally together in the fight against cancer, we can accomplish anything. Survivors and caregivers are the heart of every Relay event. Connect with other survivors and caregivers, inspire someone newly diagnosed, lend an ear to someone with a similar situation, and be part of a community where cancer is faced together, not individually.

Tulsa Community College Theatre Presents On the Verge by Eric Overmyer October 7-10th Tulsa Community College Theatre will present On the Verge by Eric Overmyer on October 7-8-9 at 8pm and October 10th at 2pm in the Pace Studio Theatre at Tulsa Community College Southeast Campus. Seating is limited with only forty seats available per night. The public will also be available to purchase tickets to livestream the production from home. The play is directed by Mark Frank. The cast includes Kira Shelton, Alexis Davis, Tristen Butts, and Matthew Gwinner. The Production Stage Manager is Beth Westfall, and the Assistant Stage manager is Hayley Longacre. On the Verge follows the adventures of three Victorian women explorers into what they believe to be Terra Incognita, a new, unexplored land. The three are from very different exploration backgrounds but all exhibit their own form of independence. From the world in general and specifically men. The three together discuss many aspects of their pasts in exploring, with Mary and Fanny frequently trying to outdo each other. As the ladies’ progress on their travels, it becomes apparent that they are not on an ordinary journey. Mary reaches the conclusion at the end of the first act that the three of them are in fact traveling forward through time and that, while doing so, they are beginning to absorb knowledge from the future. For tickets Call (918) 595-7777 or email eat40@eau40eav40eaw40 for assistance. Find us on Facebook at https://fb.me/e/ZCydd9gQ

MIC DROP Homecoming celebrates the significant role Tulsa played in the creation of the Christian Hip Hop (CHH) genre; and in turn, the impact it has had on generations. The event will consist of a screening of the groundbreaking film MIC DROP: The Culture of Christian Hip Hop along with a CHH Pioneer Concert featuring some of the genre’s greatest founders – all commemorating Tulsa, the city that aided in the genre’s inception. MIC DROP: The Culture of Christian Hip Hop made history as the first documentary of its kind to be majorly distributed, via Warner Music, and delivered for viewing in theaters. The Tulsa event will mark one of few film premieres across the country prior to its official arrival to streaming platforms, including Netflix. MIC DROP highlights the pioneers who broke down barriers between Christianity and Hip Hop and, ultimately, created a movement. MIC DROP Homecoming will also honor beloved Tulsa pastor, Stephen Wiley – a revolutionary icon in Christian Hip Hop, credited with one of the first Christian Rap albums to ever be recorded. Wiley will also perform during the CHH Pioneer Concert alongside fellow trailblazers Adion Butler, Michael Peace and more.

PMJ is known for reworking popular modern music into different vintage genres, especially early 20th Century forms such as swing and jazz. Postmodern Jukebox has amassed over 1.2 billion YouTube views and 4 million subscribers. Each week, Postmodern Jukebox releases a new video on YouTube. The band has covered songs by artists ranging from Lady Gaga and The Strokes to Katy Perry and the White Stripes. Since their beginnings as a small group of friends making music in a basement in Queens, New York, Postmodern Jukebox has gone on to feature 70 different performers and tour six continents.
