Join Monica Taylor, Mallory Eagle and Ken Pomeroy for an afternoon of great music in downtown Jenks TULSA, Okla. -April 21, 2021 – It’s been said, “there must be something in the water” when it comes to the massive musical talent tied to the State of Oklahoma. The list is long and the list is impressive. Names like Bob Wills, Gene Autry, Woody Guthrie, Merle Haggard, Reba McEntire, Roy Clark, Wanda Jackson, Vince Gill, Garth Brooks, Sandi Patty, JJ Cale, Jean Shepard, The Flaming Lips, Chet Baker, Hanson, The Gap Band, Leon Russell, Carrie Underwood and of course Blake Shelton. This extensive list however only scratches the surface, so when Nashville Artist Manager and former Record Label Executive Brenda Cline moved back to her home state of Oklahoma in 2015, she began to pursue her dream to pay homage to the great women entertainers of Oklahoma through the “Women of Song: The Heart and Spirit of Oklahoma” project. The “Women of Song” (WOS) project is multi-faceted. First, and foremost is to honor the female singers and songwriters at all professional levels. From young artists tirelessly working on their careers to artists who have had successful careers that deserve to be recognized and esteemed. Several of the WOS artists have been inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame and Oklahoma Hall of Fame. As a special memorial, WOS proudly pays tribute to three amazing and beloved female artists whose lives were tragically cut short, Gus Hardin, Debbie Campbell and Betsy Smittle. This prestigious group of women are some of Oklahoma’s finest ranging in age and musical genres and deserve to be celebrated. These are “The Women of Song.” Ann Bell - Debbie Campbell - Kellie Coffey - Gail Davies - Mallory Eagle - Kayln Fay - Cherokee Maidens - Marty Fields Galloway - Gus Hardin - Becky Hobbs - Jana Jae - Leigh Madison - Jennifer Marriot - Ken Pomeroy - Gracee Shriver - Betsy Smittle - Adley Stump - Monica Taylor “I have always been an advocate for women in the music business because traditionally it has been much more difficult to get recognition than men. Combine that with my love for Oklahoma and the outstanding talent that has evolved from here, this project is something I knew in my heart I had to accomplish.” Brenda Cline - Executive Producer and Creator “Women of Song: The Heart and Spirit of Oklahoma Cline’s plans are to produce a compilation album, music video and a documentary. She has assembled an esteemed team making up the Women of Song Advisory Board. These individuals come from various professions and backgrounds. Handpicked by Cline, the board members are involved in various aspects of the long-range projects associated with WOS and all share Cline’s vision to champion women in the music arena and bring exposure to the immeasurable talent that emerges out of the state of Oklahoma. “Some of my biggest influences in my career have been Oklahoma female artists. As a kid I loved Wanda Jackson’s “Let’s Have a Party” and Debbie Campbell’s soulful singing blew me away. To this day, I’ll never forget the first time I heard Gus Hardin and Ann Bell sing. There are many more that have made their mark, and so many young female artists coming up making a name for themselves. I am so honored to be a part of the Women of Song! I’m so grateful to Brenda Cline for all her hard work and bringing us together.” Becky Hobbs From the conception of the Women of Song project to its public launch this Saturday, April 24th at the increasingly popular Maggie’s Music Box in Jenks, Cline experienced many challenges, most notably the shutdown this past year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. With things starting to open up and the artists roster complete she is forging ahead with the artists, board members and community excitedly behind her. Kevin Wayne Smith owner of the newest music hotspot in downtown Jenks was happy to throw his support behind the WOS project and has set aside the last Saturday of every month from 3:30-5:30pm to showcase the ‘Women of Song, Writers In the Round’ event. The first WOS performance Saturday will be hosted by the Red Dirt Cimarron Songbird herself, Monica Taylor, sharing the stage with the amazing talent of Mallory Eagle and Ken Pomeroy. These three incredibly gifted Women of Song are the very essence of Cline’s dream to honor and expose the immense talent constantly emerging from the state of Oklahoma. “I’m honored to be a part of the Oklahoma Women of Song project! The roster is full of hardworking, genuine artists in music and each have many other artistic talents as well. I get to share the stage with two young women who have written wonderful song’s and they are also business minded. Mallory and I have the roots of Oklahoma and same taste in musicians! I’m excited to get to listen to her songs and maybe sing along, too. Ken has been a strong and graceful presence in my Red Dirt family for 2-3 years and I love her songs and stage presence! We are going to sing along with each on a few songs I believe, too... I do love singing with other women, as anyone knows who knows me! (The Cherokee Maidens & Sycamore Swing.)” Monica Taylor Looking ahead, Cline is thrilled that the Women of Song events will be filmed and later used in a documentary that will showcase the exceptional talents of these Oklahoma treasures where people can learn a little more about them, their journey and their Oklahoma ties. Cline is proud of her Oklahoma roots and impressive Cherokee heritage which she has recently discovered. Many of the Women of Song artists and advisory team are of Cherokee heritage and Cline plans on honoring that in the upcoming documentary as it is a rich part of Oklahoma’s history as well.

Dave's RV in Claremore is hosting a Pet Adoption and Pet Food Drive! Dave’s RV will be collecting bags of dog and cat food the entire month of May. The bags must be new and unopened. Everyone that brings in a 30 lb. bag or more of dog or cat food will receive their choice of $500 off the purchase of an RV, or 15% off parts. Dave's has partnered with Oklahoma Alliance for Animals, Skiatook Paws & Claws and Zoi’s Animal Rescue for this event. Come out and help the dogs and cats find their forever homes. All food collected will be evenly distributed between the three organizations. Last fall they collected over 4,000 pounds of food! Oklahoma Alliance for Animals is a Tulsa based 501c3 nonprofit collaborative organization established in 2004. OAA’s primary purpose is to bring together the people and resources needed to overcome pet homelessness, abuse and neglect. Oklahoma Alliance for Animals is dedicated to reducing pet overpopulation, encouraging responsible pet ownership and promoting the humane treatment of animals through community collaboration and education. Zoi's Animal Rescue although founded in 2005, the seed was planted several years before when Mike and Debbie Stellas rescued two lab puppies from being euthanized. They both had severe mange and the female had a birth defect, which made her left front leg deformed. They were named Zeke and Zoi (Zoi in Greek means "life".) Because of Zeke and Zoi, Debbie and Mike decided to start Zoi's Animal Rescue. Since 2005, ZAR has rescued and adopted out over1000 dogs and cats. Zoi’s is a 501(c)(3) non-profit all-breed animal rescue group that is based in Claremore, OK. Skiatook Paws & Claws was formed in October of 2013 by a young lady who had a dream to make her local animal control facility a "no-kill" shelter by pulling every deemed adoptable dog and cat and adopting them out to loving forever homes. She teamed up with two of her friends and together, they formed what SPACAR is today. We have found homes for over 2,000 animals in our surrounding area and have successfully kept the Skiatook animal control facility no-kill for four years. They are currently in the process of becoming an official 501c3 organization. Food can be dropped off at Dave’s RV throughout the entire month of May. To wrap up the Pet Food Drive, Oklahoma Animal Alliance, Zoi’s and Skiatook Paws & Claws will be on site from 11:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday, May 15th with adoptable cats and dogs.

Emergencies happen. It can be a tornado, house fire, flood, or a car accident. No one wants to think about accidents or disasters. But being prepared for an emergency can help protect your family. The whole point of emergency preparation is to do as much as possible before an emergency happens. That’s why Camp Bandage was started. It is a way to educate the community about being prepared for emergencies and encourage you to lead that process. We want you to share this information with family, friends, and neighbors. Working together, we can be prepared and keep your family safe. Camp Bandage was started in 1983 by Dr. A. L. Gerner and his wife Shirley as a one day event designed to educate the community on how common accidents and injuries could be prevented. Businesses and organizations across the community are on hand during Camp Bandage to teach everything from injury prevention, first aid and CPR as well as bike, water, fire and home safety. The Broken Arrow Police and Fire departments are on hand to simulate responding to a car accident in order to educate the community on how emergency responders work together.

Samuel Sinyangwe is a policy analyst and data scientist who works with communities of color to fight systemic racism through cutting-edge policies and strategies. Mr. Sinyangwe has supported movement activists across the country to collect and use data as a tool for fighting police violence through Mapping Police Violence and to launch Campaign Zero, a comprehensive platform to end police violence. At this year's Symposium, Mr. Sinyangwe will provide perspective on how policy and data can provide a lens into how looking back at historical events can shape the work needed to improve the future. Specifically, Mr. Sinyangwe will illuminate how local and national data can inform how looking back at the vents of the Tulsa 1921 Race Massacre should shape how we move beyond 2021 and consider the next 100 years in Tulsa. This year, you will have the opportunity to attend the Symposium virtually or limited, in-person attendance. Be sure to register now and take advantage of the Early Bird Registration which will end on April 20, 2021.

Born and raised in Nashville Tennessee, Harvard graduate Caroline Randall Williams is an award-winning poet, young adult novelist, and cookbook author as well as an activist, public intellectual, performance artist, and scholar. She joined the faculty of Vanderbilt University in the Fall of 2019 as a Writer-in-Residence in Medicine, Health, and Society while she continues to work and speak to the places where art, business, and scholarship intersect, moving people closer to their best lives and corporations closer to their ideal identities. At this year's Symposium, Ms. Randall Williams will participate in a joint luncheon panel discussion that illuminates how important historical events tie into the history of places we live (with Greenwood and the Race Massacre as local models). Ms. Williams will focus on how past and current narratives help shape our collective and individual memories for purposes of preserving, honoring, and creating cultural histories, and how activism performance art, monuments, and place intersect in both preserving the past and carving a path for the future.

Vinita, Okla., March 25, 2021 (Grand Nation, Inc.) — Everyone’s favorite safety camp and kids’ fun fair is back. The fourth annual Camp Bandage — Grand Lake is set for Saturday, June 5. A free outdoor event that provides safety, health and first aid training for children of all ages, Camp Bandage - Grand Lake will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at Grand Lake RV Resort on Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees. Open to the public, Camp Bandage - Grand Lake is a family-friendly day that teaches children of all ages to put safety first and how to be ready in case of an emergency. A number of groups and organizations will be on hand during the event to educate children and demonstrate a wide variety of safety topics to them in a fun and diverse environment. During Camp Bandage, children will learn about safe outdoor recreation, water safety, health, first aid, weather, fire safety, injury and substance abuse prevention and more. They will also have the opportunity to meet and interact with first responders from the Grand Lake area, including fire, police and EMTs, as well as explore helicopters, fire trucks, police cars, ambulances, patrol boats, cranes and a fire boat. In addition to the many safety classes, demonstrations and hands-on activities, the fun will also include karaoke, dancing and games. Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, everything is free at Camp Bandage - Grand Lake, including admission, prizes, hot dogs and drinks. Beginning at 10 a.m., T-shirts will be given away to the first 500 children who arrive at Camp Bandage. The Grand Lake safety camp and kids’ fun fair is an off-shoot of Camp Bandage - Broken Arrow, which was started in 1983 by Dr. A.L. Gerner and his wife, Shirley. An annual event for more than 30 years, Camp Bandage was designed to educate the community of how common accidents and injuries could be prevented. Over the years, the Broken Arrow event has grown and expanded its focus to include all aspects of safety and disaster preparedness. Camp Bandage - Grand Lake is an extension of that growth. Camp Bandage - Grand Lake is organized by Grand Nation, a nonprofit grassroots coalition that has been serving the Grand Lake area since 2012. “A community outreach project of this magnitude fits right in with our existing substance abuse prevention program, GaDuGi,” said Jennifer Hinson, Grand Nation executive director. “For instance, we’re trying to promote Responsible Recreation on the lake. Camp Bandage - Grand Lake teaches kids about being safe on the water and being safe at home. It’s an obvious platform where we could impact hundreds of kids in one day. That was an opportunity we didn’t want to pass up.” Camp Bandage - Grand Lake will once again be hosted by Grand Lake RV Resort at 31527 South 4510 Road, Afton, Okla., on Duck Creek. “Camp Bandage is an awesome safety program for kids with lots of activities for learning,” said Dianna McIntyre, owner and operator of Grand Lake RV Resort. “We thoroughly enjoy it and think it’s a wonderful experience.” If you would like to attend Camp Bandage, be a vendor or volunteer at the event, visit CampBandage.org/GrandLake or the Grand Lake Camp Bandage Facebook page for more information. Inaugural Greenwood Film Festival Launches in Tulsa June 8, 2021 - The Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO) is proud to be a partner of the inaugural Greenwood Film Festival (GFF) to be held in Tulsa June 12-14, 2021. One of many events commemorating the centennial anniversary of the Tulsa race massacre, GFF seeks to honor the past while also working to build a strong and vibrant future for the art, culture and film community in the city’s Greenwood District. This year’s festival selections will showcase the creative and visionary work of African American storytellers from around the world with a variety of films and project types to be presented, including the short films “Black Wall Street: American Nightmare” and local filmmaker Trey Thaxton’s “Welcome To Tulsa”; the feature length documentary “Restoration: A Concert Film” directed by Native Son; and the feature film “Issues of the Heart”. "The Greenwood Film Festival was birthed with a mission to create a dynamic experience that merges powerful films and civic discourse on the soil of ‘Black Wall Street’,” said GFF Executive Director Dennis Delemar. “With this being the centennial year of the 1921 Race Massacre, a tragedy of so much pain, and lack of restitution, we are glad that the Oklahoma Film + Music Office is helping us build something new. A festival where GFF serves as a launching for pioneering directors, actors, producers, and much more, GFF would like to thank OF+MO for their sponsorship." In addition to the films being presented, GFF will also give local filmmakers and others a platform to connect with their community, encourage identity, increase filmmaking skills, ownership and engage in hot topics in the festival’s “Let’s Talk Panels”. Workshops will also be held with special guests, including writer Sheryll Atkins (“Moesha”, “Sister Sister”), production coordinator Markeia Jones (“Bigger”, “Undercover Brother”) and actor/producer Edwin Walker (“Empire”, “Chicago PD”). “We are proud to support the Greenwood Film Festival during this monumental time in history,” said OF+MO Director Tava Maloy Sofsky. “Film is one of the most powerful mediums in the world, and we’re glad to see that this event will use it as a tool to bring people together to further educate audiences on these important chapters in history while also serving to grow the moviemaking community in the Greenwood district and throughout the city.” Screenings and events will take place in Tulsa at both the Greenwood Cultural Center and Circle Cinema. The most exciting component of the Block Party will be the unveiling of the logo and branding for New Orleans Square. The City of Broken Arrow contracted BrandEra to help form a logo and brand for the New Orleans and Elm area. Having this branding will help to create an identity for this intersection and therefore increase growth and traffic. With the guidance of BrandEra and the City Council, we are very excited to unveil this logo. It will be a big night for the square! “New Orleans Square is in the beginning stages of rebranding & the revitalization of this area is already happening on every corner!” said Christi Gillespie, Vice Mayor and City Councilor for Ward 3, which includes New Orleans Square. “I am thrilled the merchants of New Orleans Square are partnering with the city to hold this Patriotic Block Party, which is sure to be an annual occurrence. Bring your family & friends & join us as we kick off the holiday weekend on July 1, complete with a steak cook-off and family-friendly activities, including a fireworks finale!” The Steak Cookoff Association is sanctioning the steak cook-off portion of the event providing judges and expertise. Register today and you could win $1,000! For more information and to sign up go to steakcookoffs.com. Come out, enjoy a patriotic evening, and help Broken Arrow look forward to the future of New Orleans Square! Located at the Northwest quadrant at the intersection of E New Orleans St and S Elm Pl

United in Faith Worldwide! Jehovah’s Witnesses Hold Global Virtual Event in 240 Lands, 500+ Languages TULSA, Okla. — July 2, 2021 — Breaking a century-old tradition in the name of health and safety, the largest convention organization in the world has moved its annual in-person event to a virtual format for the second time in as many years, canceling nearly 6,000 conventions in 240 lands. For many years, summers in Tulsa have featured Jehovah’s Witnesses streaming into the city to take over hotels and fill restaurants as they held their conventions at various venues. In 2020, the pandemic unexpectedly interrupted that tradition, moving the international religious organization to cancel in-person conventions throughout the world and launch a global virtual event. This was a first for Jehovah’s Witnesses, who have held public conventions in stadiums, arenas, convention centers, and theaters around the world since 1897. “Powerful by Faith!” is the theme of the 2021 global event, which will be delivered in more than 500 languages to households throughout the globe over six weekends during July and August 2021, uniting some 15-20 million people in 240 countries. Since the convention is typically held from Friday through Sunday, the program will be available in six installments corresponding to morning and afternoon sessions. “Friday” morning’s session is available for streaming or download beginning June 28, 2021. Jeremy and Lacy Merritt of Tulsa are looking forward to the convention. Reflecting on this year’s program theme, Lacy said, “I feel like many people view faith in an abstract way. Yet, when investigated, the scriptures reveal how it’s based on evidence and reason.” Jeremy appreciates the convention’s virtual format and hopes the public will tune in and find solace amid world conditions. “After watching global events unfold over this past year, I hope that as many people as possible watch the convention sessions on jw.org. The problems and challenges that plague our global society continue to get worse and seem insurmountable. I know these convention sessions will reinforce why we need faith and how we can obtain it,” Jeremy said. The continued risk of bringing thousands of people together in cities around the world prompted the organization to opt for a virtual platform for the second consecutive year. However, the move has not curbed the enthusiasm for the annual event. Congregations around the world are inviting the public to join them in this historic occasion. “Faith has helped our global brotherhood to continue to thrive even during a pandemic,” said Robert Hendriks for Jehovah’s Witnesses. “Our faith will continue to unite us in worship — even virtually — as millions gather in private homes around the world to enjoy a powerful and inspiring spiritual program.” All are invited to attend the event by going to jw.org on the web or JW Broadcasting on the free JW Library iOS or Android App, or on streaming platforms like Roku TV, Apple TV, and others. The program is free and accessible to all. The schedule for download and global streaming is listed below. The production will be presented on Zoom July 29, 30, 31st at 7pm. The Webinar Zoom address to join the fun for free in the comfort of your own home is 929 9437 1436. There will be a set and costume design presentation at 6:30pm. This new version of Alice in Wonderland with a cast of twenty-one children ages 7-17 is so close to the original in intention and feeling that you might suspect that Lewis Carroll himself had written it. And yet, it includes many unusual and imaginative devices that bring the fantasy characters of Wonderland to life. In this new adaptation, a group of performers seeks out Alice in order to provide "her turn" in Wonderland. And, as her adventure unfolds, they play the many characters she encounters and grows to love. The play runs fifty minutes with no intermission. This is Children’s Summer Theatre’s twenty-sixth season and 8th season in Tulsa at TCC. Find us on Facebook https://fb.me/e/GG4U7BqF

Find your center at this 3-Day Yoga in the Park event presented by Project Roots nonprofit founded by Bridget Pettis WHAT: The event at Chandler Park will be hosted by former WNBA champion and coach Bridget Pettis. Pettis is a certified Yogi and founder of the nonprofit organization, Project Roots. After leaving basketball in 2020 to pursue her life’s passion of feeding the homeless, supporting local farms and teaching those in need the value of growing their own food, Pettis has also brought yoga to her community garden and is now expanding her reach to other cities across the country. “I began my journey into yoga more than 10 years ago,” said Pettis. “I was very hesitant because I didn’t want to do the wrong thing and didn’t know much about yoga. I felt very confused and disconnected from my reality and who I really was at that time in my life. I began soul searching and everywhere I looked led me back inside myself. I found infinite value in being able to sit still, stop the movement and open up enough space just to Be.” “I am grateful to be able to help people be who they are and feel more grounded in self.” Bridget and the Collective Group of Black Woman Yogis will be bringing Yoga Intensives throughout many U.S. communities, starting in Tulsa, OK. Yoga in the Park with Bridget Pettis runs August 19-21and is a great opportunity for newcomers to try yoga or more advanced practitioners to develop or deepen their daily yoga practice. Rates are $25 a day or $60 for all 3 days, August 19-21. Please bring a water bottle and mat.
