Emergencies happen. It can be a tornado, house fire, flood, or a car accident. No one wants to think about accidents or disasters. But being prepared for an emergency can help protect your family. The whole point of emergency preparation is to do as much as possible before an emergency happens. That’s why Camp Bandage was started. It is a way to educate the community about being prepared for emergencies and encourage you to lead that process. We want you to share this information with family, friends, and neighbors. Working together, we can be prepared and keep your family safe. Camp Bandage was started in 1983 by Dr. A. L. Gerner and his wife Shirley as a one day event designed to educate the community on how common accidents and injuries could be prevented. Businesses and organizations across the community are on hand during Camp Bandage to teach everything from injury prevention, first aid and CPR as well as bike, water, fire and home safety. The Broken Arrow Police and Fire departments are on hand to simulate responding to a car accident in order to educate the community on how emergency responders work together.

Vinita, Okla., March 25, 2021 (Grand Nation, Inc.) — Everyone’s favorite safety camp and kids’ fun fair is back. The fourth annual Camp Bandage — Grand Lake is set for Saturday, June 5. A free outdoor event that provides safety, health and first aid training for children of all ages, Camp Bandage - Grand Lake will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at Grand Lake RV Resort on Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees. Open to the public, Camp Bandage - Grand Lake is a family-friendly day that teaches children of all ages to put safety first and how to be ready in case of an emergency. A number of groups and organizations will be on hand during the event to educate children and demonstrate a wide variety of safety topics to them in a fun and diverse environment. During Camp Bandage, children will learn about safe outdoor recreation, water safety, health, first aid, weather, fire safety, injury and substance abuse prevention and more. They will also have the opportunity to meet and interact with first responders from the Grand Lake area, including fire, police and EMTs, as well as explore helicopters, fire trucks, police cars, ambulances, patrol boats, cranes and a fire boat. In addition to the many safety classes, demonstrations and hands-on activities, the fun will also include karaoke, dancing and games. Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, everything is free at Camp Bandage - Grand Lake, including admission, prizes, hot dogs and drinks. Beginning at 10 a.m., T-shirts will be given away to the first 500 children who arrive at Camp Bandage. The Grand Lake safety camp and kids’ fun fair is an off-shoot of Camp Bandage - Broken Arrow, which was started in 1983 by Dr. A.L. Gerner and his wife, Shirley. An annual event for more than 30 years, Camp Bandage was designed to educate the community of how common accidents and injuries could be prevented. Over the years, the Broken Arrow event has grown and expanded its focus to include all aspects of safety and disaster preparedness. Camp Bandage - Grand Lake is an extension of that growth. Camp Bandage - Grand Lake is organized by Grand Nation, a nonprofit grassroots coalition that has been serving the Grand Lake area since 2012. “A community outreach project of this magnitude fits right in with our existing substance abuse prevention program, GaDuGi,” said Jennifer Hinson, Grand Nation executive director. “For instance, we’re trying to promote Responsible Recreation on the lake. Camp Bandage - Grand Lake teaches kids about being safe on the water and being safe at home. It’s an obvious platform where we could impact hundreds of kids in one day. That was an opportunity we didn’t want to pass up.” Camp Bandage - Grand Lake will once again be hosted by Grand Lake RV Resort at 31527 South 4510 Road, Afton, Okla., on Duck Creek. “Camp Bandage is an awesome safety program for kids with lots of activities for learning,” said Dianna McIntyre, owner and operator of Grand Lake RV Resort. “We thoroughly enjoy it and think it’s a wonderful experience.” If you would like to attend Camp Bandage, be a vendor or volunteer at the event, visit CampBandage.org/GrandLake or the Grand Lake Camp Bandage Facebook page for more information. Find your center at this 3-Day Yoga in the Park event presented by Project Roots nonprofit founded by Bridget Pettis WHAT: The event at Chandler Park will be hosted by former WNBA champion and coach Bridget Pettis. Pettis is a certified Yogi and founder of the nonprofit organization, Project Roots. After leaving basketball in 2020 to pursue her life’s passion of feeding the homeless, supporting local farms and teaching those in need the value of growing their own food, Pettis has also brought yoga to her community garden and is now expanding her reach to other cities across the country. “I began my journey into yoga more than 10 years ago,” said Pettis. “I was very hesitant because I didn’t want to do the wrong thing and didn’t know much about yoga. I felt very confused and disconnected from my reality and who I really was at that time in my life. I began soul searching and everywhere I looked led me back inside myself. I found infinite value in being able to sit still, stop the movement and open up enough space just to Be.” “I am grateful to be able to help people be who they are and feel more grounded in self.” Bridget and the Collective Group of Black Woman Yogis will be bringing Yoga Intensives throughout many U.S. communities, starting in Tulsa, OK. Yoga in the Park with Bridget Pettis runs August 19-21and is a great opportunity for newcomers to try yoga or more advanced practitioners to develop or deepen their daily yoga practice. Rates are $25 a day or $60 for all 3 days, August 19-21. Please bring a water bottle and mat. Kickoff event on Friday, October 1st at Panera Bread with Komen Oklahoma 100% of Pink Ribbon Bagel sales in the Tulsa area to benefit Komen Oklahoma on Friday, October 15 Tulsa, October 1, 2021 – Panera Bread is once again joining the fight against breast cancer by baking its signature Pink Ribbon Bagels®, a staple every October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 2021 marks the 20th anniversary of the Pink Ribbon Bagel, and over that time Panera Bread bakery-cafes have sold over 20 million Pink Ribbon Bagels and have raised over $4 million for breast cancer charities nationwide. This year’s Pink Ribbon Bagel fundraising efforts begin with a special kickoff event on Friday, October 1 at 9 am at the Panera Bread bakery-café at 10752 S Memorial Drive at The Vineyard on Memorial Shopping Center. Throughout October, 25¢ from each Pink Ribbon Bagel sold at Panera Bread bakery-cafés in the Tulsa area will be donated to Susan G. Komen Oklahoma to support its mission and programs. Additionally, on Friday, October 15, Panera Bread will donate 100% of all Tulsa area Pink Ribbon Bagel sales to Susan G. Komen Oklahoma. “Panera Bread in Oklahoma is honored to work alongside our customers to once again support Susan G. Komen Oklahoma in this annual October campaign,” said Brian Camey, President of the local Panera Bread franchisee. “We are proud to offer the Pink Ribbon Bagel as a way to help raise funds and awareness for the cause during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.” Shaped in the form of the iconic breast cancer pink ribbon, the Pink Ribbon Bagel features cherry chips, dried cherries and cranberries, vanilla, honey, and brown sugar, and is baked fresh each morning by Panera’s bakers at each bakery-café. The Pink Ribbon Bagel was conceived in 2001 when Panera Bread franchisee, Tulsa’s own Sue Stees, who is now a 37-year breast cancer survivor, began searching for ways to help other women fighting the same disease. Her search led her to the development of the Pink Ribbon Bagel. She sold 27,000 bagels in her bakery-cafes the first year and the idea was taken nationwide by Panera Bread, LLC shortly after. There are numerous ways to purchase a Pink Ribbon Bagel. Guests can purchase bagels by visiting their local Panera Bread bakery-café, placing a catering order, or ordering online for Rapid Pick-up or Delivery. Orders can be placed online at www.panerabead.com or by using the Panera Bread app. About Panera Bread The Traditional Bakery, Inc. / Oklahoma City Bakery, Inc. franchise organization owns and operates 23 Panera Bread bakery-café locations in Missouri and Oklahoma. The Relay For Life movement is dedicated to helping communities attack cancer. Through funds donated, time given, or awareness raised, our communities are teaming up - virtually or in person - to make a difference. When we rally together in the fight against cancer, we can accomplish anything. Survivors and caregivers are the heart of every Relay event. Connect with other survivors and caregivers, inspire someone newly diagnosed, lend an ear to someone with a similar situation, and be part of a community where cancer is faced together, not individually.
