Sharklahoma

Every Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday | 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
August 1, 2 & 3, 2019

Sharklahoma is a collaboration between the Oklahoma Aquarium and the Jenks Chamber of Commerce to celebrate our community and its local businesses, while also raising awareness about the ecological and economic importance of sharks. Given the importance of sharks to Jenks and beyond, the Jenks Chamber of Commerce met with the Oklahoma Aquarium in 2018 to create a celebration of these sharks and the incredible community where you can see them. The result was “Sharklahoma”—a month-long celebration of all-things shark, with events at the Oklahoma Aquarium and several other supportive local businesses throughout Jenks. The Oklahoma Aquarium is home to the only bull shark exhibit in the Western Hemisphere. With 10 bull sharks on exhibit, it is also the world’s largest collection of bull sharks. This exhibit, amongst others, has earned the Oklahoma Aquarium media attention from around the globe. Since opening in 2003, the Oklahoma Aquarium has been a great source of pride and economic growth for the city of Jenks. The bull sharks have also participated in important research projects to help humans and other sharks in captivity.

Unfortunately, that prevents us from offering refunds. Once we’ve received and processed your entry, you will not receive a refund. You may not give or sell your race number to other people, and entry fees are not transferable to the next year’s race or any other race. Thank you for understanding. Is the course certified? Yes, the course is a certified 5k distance. How is the race timed? This is a "classic" race, no chips, no official times posted. Bibs will be pulled as you cross the finish line and kept in order. First 10 to cross get an award. Are there age group awards? No. This race is designed to level the age/gender playing field. Therefore, the first 10 people to cross the finish line will receive awards. Please be aware of the following: Because of the nature of this race, we ask that you be diligent in obeying basic running etiquette. The fastest runners will be starting in the back of the group so all runners must be aware of their surroundings and obey trail rules when passing or being passed. Run on the right side of the trail no more than two wide. Pass on the left and call out to runners ahead of you if they are over the mid-line of the trail. Give way to faster runners. DO NOT block the trails. Can I wear headphones? Headphones are strongly discouraged. If you do wear them, only use one earbud at a time. This is to help ensure the safety of all participants. Are strollers and/or pets allowed? Strollers and pets are not allowed on the course. But feel free to bring the kiddos and fur babies out to support the runners after the race.

Wine and Jazz Night

August 31, 2019

Enjoy smooth jazz, an end-of-summer breeze, chilled wine and high end concessions- Saturday night of Labor Day Weekend at Oklahoma’s most unique lodging destination—POSTOAK Lodge & Retreat, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Book your room and/or tickets now for the POSTOAK Wine and Jazz Night. August 31, 2019, 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. The headliner is none other than local favorite and gifted showman, Grady Nichols. Nichols released his debut album, Between You and Me in 1996. Since then he has released four more albums, his most recent, Falling in Love with Christmas, a collection of timeless favorites with a new mix of original interpretations featuring Andy Chrisman, Jeff Lorber and others. A 2016 recipient of the Golden Hope Award, Nichols has also received the Legacy Tribute Award from the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame, and the Outstanding Achievement in Jazz honor from the prestigious Charlie Christian Music Festival. Nichols was the only artist to open on Pavarotti’s North America Farewell Tour, and he continues to work with a wide range of artists, including Chicago’s Bill Champlin, and Leigh Nash of Sixpence None the Richer. Award winning producer and songwriter Zac Maloy, including Carrie Underwood’s #1 single “Temporary Home” and founder of the Nixons, says “Grady is an absolute pro and super talented musician. I found him to be open minded and eager to push the envelope. For that, I believe the end result is a fresh take on the modern jazz genre. Deep Branch Wine will be pouring their award winning “Blind Luck” labels, and POSTOAK will be supplying craft beers, specialty cocktails and non-alcoholic summery options. Known for his fish tacos, spicy shrimp bowls and braised beef lettuce wraps from previous Wine & Jazz Festivals, POSTOAK’s Chef Damien Jacob will be curating a selection of tasty concessions for this year’s crowd. Look for the best selling antipasta plate, and fresh watermelon salad. A limited number of tickets will be available for VIP seating and special access to the Wine Tasting and “Meet the Sommes”. POSTOAK will offer door prizes and a fantastic chance to win a “Visit the Osage Basket” to a lucky winner. Accommodations can be arranged through POSTOAK’s website or calling 918-425-2112. Single/Double occupancy includes a scrumptious breakfast buffet, and tickets to the Wine/Jazz night. Spend the night and enjoy swimming, fishing, and relaxing on your front porch swing.
