Since 2007, the Tulsa Arts District has presented the community with rotating art displays as part of the monthly First Friday Art Crawl events. Every first Friday of the month, visitors can explore artwork inside galleries, studios and museums and catch a few live music performances or even an exciting fireworks display. As an added bonus, art crawlers can take advantage of free museum and gallery admission while shopping later than normal business hours would allow. Hit the district early for dinner, or stay a little later for a craft cocktail best enjoyed on an outdoor patio.

Tulsa’s very own King Cabbage Brass Band, which started partying at Cry Baby Hill in 2021 and hasn’t stopped since, joins Signature Symphony for a contagiously joyful selection of concert favorites blending funk, soul, jazz, and R&B. Plus, embark with us on unique musical journeys guided by composer Nolan Stolz, who has spent years traveling the Mother Road composing Route 66 Suite along the way, and composer Mason Bates, whose electronically fused music makes a return to Tulsa with Alternative Energy, a symphonic story of energy that takes us from Chicago to Ford’s Farm and beyond. And of course, no drive from Tulsa to Chicago would be complete without a nod to St. Louis Blues. Special thanks to The City of Tulsa, The Tulsa Arts Commission, and Vision Arts for their support of this concert with a Vision Arts 6 Grant.

David Lockington, guest conductor Ronnamarie Jensen and Jennifer Sherman, violin J.S. Bach | Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G major, BWV1048 Fung | Concerto for Two Violins and String Orchestra Tchaikovsky | Serenade for Strings in C major, op.48 Before turning to conducting, guest conductor David Lockington began his musical career as an accomplished cellist. Audiences can marvel in this distinguished musician-turned conductor for our maiden performance at the University of Tulsa’s Gussman Concert Hall when he leads the orchestra in J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G major, BWV1048. This three-movement piece is notable for its vibrant string ensemble which showcases Bach’s mastery of counterpoint and orchestration. Next, Fung’s Concerto for Two Violins and String Orchestra is a dynamic and engaging piece that explores the curious interplay of two solo violins and a string orchestra. The concert finale ends with the elegant four movement composition of Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings in C major, Op. 48 a beloved and majestic string orchestra piece.
