Demystifying Film Music

6-week workshop | Begins Monday, March 25, 2024 | 7-9pm Learn more and register at https://bit.ly/42MH0tN Led by a working film composer, "Demystifying Film Music" provides aspiring filmmakers and film enthusiasts a detailed demonstration of the often overlooked, but important process of working with composers to successfully score a film. Through audio and video examples of popular scores and films, students will be exposed to the technical and artistic considerations inherent to successfully setting music to film. - This is a conversational workshop, where students will be encouraged to provide insight to the examples presented and other common scoring scenarios. - Students will also bring their own examples of exemplary scoring and we'll deconstruct why they resonate. - Also featured is a mock spotting session, where an unfinished scene will be presented with dialog but without music. - Students will decide which moments require music and what that music should be. Students will leave better equipped to score their own films by working effectively with composers. Registration for this workshop will close at 5pm on Friday March 22, 2024.

Speculative Fiction Workshop

This 6-week workshop will be held from 7-9pm on the following Tuesdays: 3/26,4/2, 4/9, 4/16, 4/23, & 4/30 at OSU-Tulsa. If you enjoy reading science-fiction, fantasy, horror, magical realism, or fairy tales, then this workshop is for you! During this workshop, we will read Kelly Link, Ken Liu, Carmen Maria Machado, Ling Ma, and other contemporary speculative fiction writers. Motion Picture Storytelling

This online workshop will introduce the process of learning to tell a story with limited tools to preserve, inspire or share our stories with one another.
First Friday Art Crawl
April 5, 2024 | 6 - 9 p.m.
Since 2007, the Tulsa Arts District has presented the community with rotating art displays as part of the monthly First Friday Art Crawl events. Every first Friday of the month, visitors can explore artwork inside galleries, studios and museums and catch a few live music performances or even an exciting fireworks display. As an added bonus, art crawlers can take advantage of free museum and gallery admission while shopping later than normal business hours would allow. Hit the district early for dinner, or stay a little later for a craft cocktail best enjoyed on an outdoor patio.

The annual Trail of Tears Art Show, hosted on the grounds of Cherokee Springs Plaza in Tahlequah, presents authentic Native American art in one of Oklahoma's oldest art shows. Open to artists from all federally recognized Native American tribes, the Trail of Tears Art Show displays a wide range of creativity and artistic style. This diverse art show attracts artists, art dealers and visitors from across the nation. One of the most prestigious multi-tribal art shows in the country, the Trail of Tears Art Show began as a means of cultivating the art form of painting as a way of expressing Native American heritage within the Cherokee Nation. Peruse this year's Trail of Tears Art Show and view categories that historically have included basketry, pottery, graphics, sculpture, miniatures and the annual "Trail of Tears" theme.

Friends of the Garden Brunch
April 6, 2024
Dine al fresco in support of the Philbrook Gardens! Donations of $500 or $1,000 provide annual support to our beautiful Gardens and include 2 seats at the brunch, as well as 2 complimentary tickets to Art in Bloom with option for early, behind-the-scenes access with florists beginning at 8:30 am, followed by pre-brunch mimosas at 9:15 am. After brunch, guests are invited to join Philbrook Horticulturists for a tour of the Gardens. Friends of the Garden patrons at the $1,000 level also receive a private, at-home consultation with a Philbrook Horticulturist, plus additional invitations throughout the year.

Oklahoma Jewish Film Festival
April 7-11, 2024
For an entertaining and rewarding cinematic experience, join the audience in Tulsa for the Oklahoma Jewish Film Festival, held at the iconic Circle Cinema. This festival is a collaboration between Circle Cinema, the Jewish Federation of Tulsa and the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art. Woolaroc Spring Traders Encampment

Experience living history at its best at the Spring Traders Encampment with approximately 125 tents and teepees set up for this annual Western heritage event formerly known as the Spring Mountain Man Encampment. Spend the weekend at Woolaroc in Bartlesville and join participants from all over the United States as they recreate the rugged pioneer life of the men and women who trapped and traded in 1840s-era Indian Territory. Step back in time at the Spring Traders Encampment and observe their lifestyle, learn about their backgrounds and interests, watch their craft demonstrations, and check out their wares. The public is invited to browse through the encampment while enjoying food and living history demonstrations.

Performance dates will be April 12, 2024– April 21, 2024, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 PM, Sundays at 2:00 PM at the Playhouse located at 1800 S. Main Street in Broken Arrow. This production contains some adult language. Grace Stiles, 90-years-old and dying of cancer, has left her hospital bed and has returned to her beloved cottage in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. It is here that she wants to live out the rest of her days – not in a cold, unfeeling hospital. It all seems like a straightforward final wish – until Gloria Whitmore shows up. Gloria is a Harvard MBA recently transplanted to this rural backwater from New York and is a volunteer from hospice who has been sent to the rustic cabin to take care of Grace during her waning time. Although Grace is 90, she is a formidable barrier to Gloria’s good intentions. The BACP is pleased to welcome back award-winning director Martha Cherbini for this show. Martha has directed several shows at the BACP over the years - perhaps most notably "Gin Game," which she and her cast took to state, national and international theatre contests. Spin-n-Knit-In

Feb 10, Mar 9, & Apr 13, 2024, Saturday 1 – 4 pm On the second Saturday of each month, drop by the farm to watch or participate as we fellowship and work hand crafts and fiber arts. Bring a craft to work on or come for a "free help session" with fiber arts such as spinning, weaving, knitting, crocheting, or felting. Shepherd’s Cross offers weaving and fiber arts classes year-round, on an individual or group basis. Shepherd’s Cross is an accredited Agritourism facility and a Made in Oklahoma Company that processes Animal Welfare Approved fiber (that is chemical free, hormone free, free range, all natural). Shepherd’s Cross hosts a mini wool mill, processing wool from their own sheep, raised on site. Heart of the Shepherd is the non-profit organization (501-C3) that operates at the farm and establishes wool mills in remote, impoverished areas around the world. Heart of the Shepherd teaches Biblical references to the harvest, the animals, farming, and gardening. Shepherd’s Cross and their unique Country Craft Shop is open Tuesday through Saturday 8:30 – 5:30, year-round (closed some holidays).

A new, fresh children's story filled with a magical adventure that speaks about friendships, believing in yourself, and the importance of a child having a loving forever family through foster care and adoption. Tulsa Community College Theatre presents original play, After Olive April 25-28 Tulsa Community College Theatre will present an original play, After Olive written by Bee Johnson April 25-27th at 8pm and April 28th at 2pm in the PACE Studio Theatre on the TCC Southeast Campus. Bee Johnson is currently a film student at Columbia University in Chicago. She attended TCC from 2020-2022 and wrote After Olive as a screen play in Scriptwriting class. TCC chose the original script for its 2023-2024 theatre season and adapted it into a stage play. The story is about a young woman, Olive played by Valentine Tarpley who dying of a mysterious disease decides to spend her last week and a half in the company of her friend, the captain, played by Brayden Marchant and finally leave the island that she has lived on her whole life to explore the mainland in the brief time she has left. Also appearing in the play is Ana Nunez, Jillian Mohn, Allie Newton, Emily Bruegger, Brenen Hankins, Gavin Boudreaux, and Aspen Marshall. The production stage manager is Jenna Soltis and the assistant stage manager is Canyon Garner. The play is student designed with Jenna Soltis designing sound, Alex Ryals designing lights, Moriah Jestus designing set and properties and Melanie Torres Cordero designing costumes. Mark Frank is directing the play with Aaron Kennedy and Emily Westerfield serving as faculty advisors. Randall Pike is the technical director with Aaron Kennedy designing projections. The play is an associate entry for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, Region VI.

Red Fern Festival

Bring the family to Tahlequah and enjoy the Red Fern Festival, a fun, old-fashioned fun event featuring hound dog field trials, 1930s era children's games, a car show and more. Held annually the last weekend of April, the Red Fern Festival was inspired by the renowned novel, "Where the Red Fern Grows" by native author Wilson Rawls. The festival evokes the novel's story of simple childhood joys with a wide array of old-fashioned events perfect for the whole family. One of Tahlequah's premier events, the Red Fern Festival features unique and rustic vendors, delicious local food, live music, and plenty of children's activities. Come to this award-winning event and transport yourself back to the 1930s while also touring locations from the novel.

Carney Fest

Oklahoma Renaissance Festival

Step back in time to the 16th century with Queen Elizabeth I of England and over 400 entertainers and artisans as they create the boisterous Village of Castleton at the Oklahoma Renaissance Festival. Held at the Castle of Muskogee, this beloved annual event features a royal court, jousters and jesters, magicians, musicians, and minstrels. Delight your taste buds with wonderful and unique foods or browse through more than 125 handcrafted booths for one-of-a-kind items. Bring the entire family and enjoy a day in Renaissance England. Journey to an age of sorcerers, knights in shining armor, kings, queens, and maidens fair. When planning your voyage to Castleton, it is important to note, costumes are encouraged. On any festival day, patrons may discover guests dressed as fairies, Renaissance villagers and nobles, Sci-fi characters and even pirates. There will be living history demonstrations and marvelous live performances, like a life-size game of chess played by characters, a jousting tournament, thrilling acrobatic feats, KnightWings Birds of Prey and more. A children's realm featuring games and hands-on demonstrations provides hours of fun. Kids may visit the Ultimate Maze and take part in the Royal Quest and the Children's Knighting Ceremony. Guests can enjoy a wide variety of food and drink at one of the many merchants stationed throughout the festival grounds. Special evening events include the Masque'd Ball and The Pirate's Feaste.

The Rubber Chicken Factory Improvisational Comedy Troupe

The Rubber Chicken Factory Improv Troupe Returns April 29th at TCC TCC Theatre presents, The Rubber Chicken Factory Improvisational Comedy Show, Monday, April 29th at 7pm at Tulsa Community College Southeast Campus PACE Studio Theatre at 7pm. The event is free to the public. Seating is limited. The Rubber Chicken Factory has been entertaining audiences since 1995. The Improvisational Comedy Troupe performs live audience participation improvisational "on the spot" comedy which consists of short form improv games with suggestions from the audience. RCF troupe members are Jenna Soltis, Jillian Mohn, Tommy Woodburn, Brayden Marchant, Canyon Garner, and Ana Nunez. The stage manager is Noah Stiles. This will be a farewell show for sophomore Jillian Mohn and Jenna Soltis who are graduating. This show may contain adult language and themes.
