1st Quarter Weaving Classes

January 9, 2025

Weaving is a great winter month activity. Begin the new year with a new craft or expand upon your current weaving knowledge with one of our classes. Registration for each class is required. Navajo Weaving – Jan 9-11 Learn how to weave in the Navajo tradition in one weekend. This is a basic weaving class, including fiber arts history and practical technology; offered on site or virtually. Each participant will finish a project to take home. Retreat fee is $299.00; all materials provided. Inkle Loom Weaving – Jan 18 Learn to warp and weave on an inkle loom in this 3-hour class. Each participant will make and take home a sash and a bookmark. Class fee is $49; all materials provided Beginners Rigid Heddle Weaving: Mug Rugs – Jan 25 Learn how to warp and weave on a rigid heddle loom. Take 4 finished mug rugs home with you. Class fee is $99; all materials provided Table Loom Weaving – Jan 31-Feb 1 Students will warp and weave their projects on a table loom. Each participant will make & take home a scarf or table runner and a trivet Class fee is $159; all materials provided Rag Rug Weaving – Feb 8 Learn to weave on a pre-warped floor loom and take home a beautiful woven rag rug. Class fee is $10 plus $10 per foot woven, all materials included. Class participants decide on the length they prefer during class. A deposit of $20 is required. Floor Loom Weaving – Feb 27-March 1 Students will warp and weave their projects on a harnessed floor loom. Each participant will make & take home a scarf or table runner and a trivet Class fee is $259; all materials provided Freestyle Weaving on the Rigid Heddle Loom for Beginners – March 8 Learn to warp and weave in a freestyle fashion on a rigid heddle loom. Participants will leave with a beautiful wall hanging or a coffee table runner. Class fee is $99; all materials provided Log Cabin Weaving on the Rigid Heddle Loom – April 5 Learn to warp and weave a log cabin design weaving on a rigid heddle loom. Participants will leave with a beautiful scarf or table runner. Class fee is $99; all materials provided Our classes go a degree farther than most, and teach some history of fiber arts, and practical technology. As well as being augmented by hands on learning tools available in the Educational Farm Museum. Shepherd’s Cross offers weaving and fiber arts classes year-round, on an individual or group basis. Shepherd’s Cross is an accredited Agritourism facility, an Oklahoma Museum Association member, and a Made in Oklahoma Company that processes local Animal Welfare Approved fiber (chemical free, hormone free, free range, all natural). Shepherd’s Cross hosts a mini wool mill, processing the wool from their own sheep raised on site. Heart of the Shepherd is the non-profit organization (501-C3) that operates at the farm and establishes wool mills in remote, impoverished areas around the world. Heart of the Shepherd teaches Biblical references to the harvest, the animals, farming, and gardening. Trade workers build society’s infrastructure by providing critical skills and services to support business, organization and individual daily needs. During the Tulsa Welding School open house, instructors will speak with future students to share how they can become industry professionals in only seven months. Prospective students will witness live demonstrations conducted by instructors while showcasing the gear and tools they use in the program. Guided tours of facilities and classrooms will also be available during the event. The financial aid and career placement teams will also be on campus to provide information and answer any questions future students may have. During the career fair, local employers will be onsite to give insight into a career in welding, HVAC/R or electrical. Potential students and job seekers have the opportunity to network with company representatives and learn more about potential employers.

JA Inspire

February 26-27, 2025 | 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

JA Inspire is more than a career fair, it brings together the business community and local schools and is designed to help launch middle school students into their futures: high school, college, and careers beyond. The program is both classroom and event-based, and consists of three segments: 1) in-class sessions presented by the classroom teacher; 2) the hands-on JA Inspire expo; and 3) an in-class debrief. During the JA Inspire expo, students participate in hands-on activities, often using equipment or tools used on a job. The multi-hour experience is configurable to align with local industry and career opportunities. JA Inspire is recommended for middle school students.

Tiny Tulsa: An Accessible & Sensory Inclusive Free Play Program

March 1, 2025 | 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Bring your child to Tiny Tulsa at The Gathering Place for a sensory-inclusive play experience. This program is designed for Pre-K through 5th grade students and their families. The event will feature low lighting, soothing sounds, creative toys, art materials, and adaptive play elements that will provide a welcoming space for everyone. See the ONEOK Boathouse transform into a tiny version of Tulsa with elements like a farmer's market, construction truck, post office, art studio, library and more. Tiny Tulsa is held three Saturdays in February and the first Saturday in March. The program is free and open to the public, and gives children with special needs a space to feel safe and play alongside others.

Come to the farm and watch as the sheep peacefully graze the pastures and rest by the still waters. The newborn lambs jump for joy and frolic in the pastures. Sheep & Shepherd Tours: Self-guided Tour – Donation-based (suggested $5 per person) Enjoy watching the sheep in the pastures as you stroll the grounds in the visitor areas. Sheep & Shepherding Guided Walking Tour - Donation-based (suggested $5 per person) Drop by or pre-schedule. Please Note: Walking Tour is not in the pasture with the sheep, but adjacent to the pasture per Animal Welfare guidelines. Oklahoma Jewish Film Festival

The 11th edition of the Oklahoma Jewish Film Festival is a five-day event using the power of film to bring people of all religions and cultures together to enrich, educate, and entertain about the global Jewish experience. Woolaroc Spring Traders Encampment

April 10-12, 2025 | 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Experience living history at its best at the Spring Traders Encampment with approximately 125 tents and teepees set up for this annual Western heritage event formerly known as the Spring Mountain Man Encampment. Spend the weekend at Woolaroc in Bartlesville and join participants from all over the United States as they recreate the rugged pioneer life of the men and women who trapped and traded in 1840s-era Indian Territory. Step back in time at the Spring Traders Encampment and observe their lifestyle, learn about their backgrounds and interests, watch their craft demonstrations, and check out their wares. The public is invited to browse through the encampment while enjoying food and living history demonstrations.

Tulsa Chautauqua

Go behind the scenes of history during the Tulsa Chautauqua. Held on the grounds of the Tulsa Historical Society & Museum, this thought-provoking program offers multiple days of workshops, living history events and nightly entertainment. This year's Chautauqua theme is "Lift Every Voice: Sixty Years Since the Civil Rights Act." Five talented scholars will deliver entertaining, insightful and educational historical presentations and workshops. Each scholar has extensively researched the famous, infamous or obscure visionary they portray, to realistically recount the lifetime experiences of these remarkable figures in period costumes. This year, scholars will portray historic figures Earl Warren, Rosa Parks, Claudia "Lady Bird" Johnson, Thurgood Marshall and Coretta Scott King. Workshop-goers frequently bring a brown bag lunch to enjoy during breaks. Each night, a different scholar will give a presentation in character followed by a Q&A session from the audience, first in character, then as a scholar. Local musicians will entertain the audience briefly before each evening's performance. A variety of snacks will be available for purchase. Make an evening of it and enjoy the ambiance of a summer night under the tent while immersing yourself in history. Hours: Daily workshops at 12pm & 5:30pm., Scholar presentations start at 7pm.

Come to the farm and watch as the sheep peacefully graze the pastures and rest by the still waters. The newborn lambs jump for joy and frolic in the pastures. Students are taught historical agriculture, mixed with a healthy appreciation for industrialized agriculture and exposed to agricultural parables found in The Bible. Shepherd’s Cross is a working sheep farm. There are many other animals and activities on the farm. Other areas of the farm include a Farm Museum, a Farm Store, Wool Mill, and Bible Garden. The internship is under the direction of Dr. Diane Dickinson, an agriculturalist with a Bachelor’s in Agriculture, a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, and over five decades of farm and livestock experience. She serves as an on-site veterinarian and operates a veterinary care unit on the farm. The summer semester is the busiest Bible Garden season to intern, as this is harvest season. Educate visitors on growing, harvesting, and using seasonal produce as part of our outreach program. This is weaning season for the lambs, and summer grass range season for the ewes. Spin-n-Knit-In

On the second Saturday of each month, drop by the farm to watch or participate as we fellowship and work hand crafts and fiber arts. Bring a craft to work on or come for a "free help session" with fiber arts such as spinning, weaving, knitting, crocheting, or felting. Shepherd’s Cross offers weaving and fiber arts classes year-round, on an individual or group basis. Shepherd’s Cross is an accredited Agritourism facility and a Made in Oklahoma Company that processes Animal Welfare Approved fiber (that is chemical free, hormone free, free range, all natural). Shepherd’s Cross hosts a mini wool mill, processing wool from their own sheep, raised on site. Heart of the Shepherd is the non-profit organization (501-C3) that operates at the farm and establishes wool mills in remote, impoverished areas around the world. Heart of the Shepherd teaches Biblical references to the harvest, the animals, farming, and gardening. Shepherd’s Cross and their unique Country Craft Shop is open Tuesday through Saturday 8:30 – 5:30, year-round (closed some holidays).

Tulsa Rock & Mineral Society Show

Head to Tulsa Expo Square to join other gem and mineral enthusiasts in a two-day gathering at the Tulsa Rock & Mineral Society Show. Browse through vendor booths filled with unique gemstones and pieces of art created from minerals, then stop by the fluorescent room and touch table for hands-on education. Shepherd’s Cross is a working sheep farm. There are many other animals and activities on the farm. Other areas of the farm include a Farm Museum, a Farm Store, Wool Mill, and Bible Garden. The internship is under the direction of Dr. Diane Dickinson, an agriculturalist with a Bachelor’s in Agriculture, a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, and over five decades of farm and livestock experience. She serves as an on-site veterinarian and operates a veterinary care unit on the farm. The summer semester is the busiest Bible Garden season to intern, as this is harvest season. Educate visitors on growing, harvesting, and using seasonal produce as part of our outreach program. This is weaning season for the lambs, and summer grass range season for the ewes. Experience is advantageous but not required. High school or college students as well as any age adult are welcome to apply. College credit may be received for students enrolled in college classes. Following successful completion of the Internship, the student may apply for the Apprentice/Residency Program. This program allows the student to remain at the farm for eight additional months to experience all the activities of a farm year. Internships are full or part time and live on-site or live off-site. Compensation for internships may include room, board, and a monthly monetary stipend. The stipend is not a salary, and it is performance based.
