Tulsa Symphony – Firebird-Featuring Tulsa Oratorio Chorus

May 13, 2017 | 7:30 - 10 p.m.

HAYDN Symphony No. 90 KODALY Háry János Suite STRAVINSKY The Firebird Suite (1945 version) Conducted by Daniel Hege, this program is sure to elicit a smile from seasoned concertgoers and first-timers alike. Haydn’s Symphony No. 90 is not without glimpses into his humorous, prankster side. Influenced by his love for both folk music and for French impressionistic music, Kodaly was able to paint in impressionistic orchestral colors the comedic tale of a Hungarian style Don Quixote in his Háry János Suite. Stravinsky captivates listeners with his ballet music suite The Firebird. Even without the ballet theater, Stravinsky’s music summons the imagination to delight in Russian fairy tales of the magical glowing bird that can be a blessing or a curse to its owner. Daniel Hege, principal guest conductor Pre-concert conductor chat begins at 6:30 and student performances at 6:45. All are invited to attend the post-concert reception and meet the musicians and conductor! http://purchase.tickets.com/buy/TicketPurchase?organ_val=37848&pid=8223422&agency=TULSA_PAC

Something Rotten!

May 23-25, 2017 | 7:30 p.m.

Direct from Broadway, SOMETHING ROTTEN! is a “big, fat hit!” (New York Post). Set in the ‘90s – the 1590s – this hilarious smash tells the story of Nick and Nigel Bottom (Tony® nominee Rob McClure and Broadway’s Josh Grisetti), two brothers who are desperate to write their own hit play while the "rock star" Shakespeare (Tony® nominee Adam Pascal) keeps getting all the hits. When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first MUSICAL! With its heart on its ruffled sleeve and sequins in its soul, SOMETHING ROTTEN! is “The Producers + Spamalot + The Book of Mormon. Squared!” (New York Magazine).
