Free RoCo Fit Couch to 5k Program

Every Tuesday & Thursday | 6 - 7 p.m.
May 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25 & 30, 2017

Experienced mentors will guide participants through 12 weeks of progressive walk or walk/run workouts designed to help them finish a 5k Mock race. Professionals will educate on form, injury prevention, core strength, nutrition, and safety. RoCo Fit is free of charge to anyone 13 years old or older and live, work, play, or learn in Rogers County. Twice a week mentored workouts at Claremore Lake, weekly educational emails, and professional presentations all included in program. First and last workouts are a pre/post-mile and are held at Claremore High School Track - all other workouts are at Claremore Lake. Ending with a Mock 5k at Claremore Lake on June 8th.

Free Tai Chi Quan-Moving for Better Balance Class

Every Thursday | 8:15 - 9:15 p.m.
May 4, 11 & 18, 2017

Through simple, graceful movements that are easy to learn, Tai Chi builds physical stamina, improves one’s balance, muscular strength, postural control, self-confidence, memory, and reduces the likelihood of falling. The Eight Tai Chi Quan forms taught are adapted from 24 Simplified Forms of Tai Chi. According to CDC, Tai Chi Quan, if practiced regularly, is proven to reduce the risk of falls by 55%. Tai Chi Quan is a FREE 10-12 week program offered to anyone interested in improving their balance.

Drawing on Memories

Monthly on the Third Tuesday | 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

There is a gallery discussion of specific art pieces followed by a hands-on, interactive activity. This program provides an opportunity for the person with the disease to use remaining motor skills and non-linear communication to recreate a representation of them that lets other recognize their essence. Healthy Brains for a Healthy Oklahoma - The Balanced Brain

The Laureate Institute for Brain Research presents "Healthy Brains for a Healthy Oklahoma" a series of talks focused on Brain Healthy, Development, and Safety, all aimed towards parents, educators, and community members. Each talk is FREE to the public and takes place every 4th Thursday of the month! This months talk, "The Balanced Brain," with Dr. Yoon-Hee Cha, will discuss how the parts of the brain work together and how to achieve a healthy balance between all parts of the brain. The talk is located at the Laureate Conference Center from 6-8pm on Thursday, May 25th!
