Camp Bandage Grand Lake

June 5, 2021 | 12 - 4 p.m.

Vinita, Okla., March 25, 2021 (Grand Nation, Inc.) — Everyone’s favorite safety camp and kids’ fun fair is back. The fourth annual Camp Bandage — Grand Lake is set for Saturday, June 5. A free outdoor event that provides safety, health and first aid training for children of all ages, Camp Bandage - Grand Lake will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at Grand Lake RV Resort on Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees. Open to the public, Camp Bandage - Grand Lake is a family-friendly day that teaches children of all ages to put safety first and how to be ready in case of an emergency. A number of groups and organizations will be on hand during the event to educate children and demonstrate a wide variety of safety topics to them in a fun and diverse environment. During Camp Bandage, children will learn about safe outdoor recreation, water safety, health, first aid, weather, fire safety, injury and substance abuse prevention and more. They will also have the opportunity to meet and interact with first responders from the Grand Lake area, including fire, police and EMTs, as well as explore helicopters, fire trucks, police cars, ambulances, patrol boats, cranes and a fire boat. In addition to the many safety classes, demonstrations and hands-on activities, the fun will also include karaoke, dancing and games. Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, everything is free at Camp Bandage - Grand Lake, including admission, prizes, hot dogs and drinks. Beginning at 10 a.m., T-shirts will be given away to the first 500 children who arrive at Camp Bandage. The Grand Lake safety camp and kids’ fun fair is an off-shoot of Camp Bandage - Broken Arrow, which was started in 1983 by Dr. A.L. Gerner and his wife, Shirley. An annual event for more than 30 years, Camp Bandage was designed to educate the community of how common accidents and injuries could be prevented. Over the years, the Broken Arrow event has grown and expanded its focus to include all aspects of safety and disaster preparedness. Camp Bandage - Grand Lake is an extension of that growth. Camp Bandage - Grand Lake is organized by Grand Nation, a nonprofit grassroots coalition that has been serving the Grand Lake area since 2012. “A community outreach project of this magnitude fits right in with our existing substance abuse prevention program, GaDuGi,” said Jennifer Hinson, Grand Nation executive director. “For instance, we’re trying to promote Responsible Recreation on the lake. Camp Bandage - Grand Lake teaches kids about being safe on the water and being safe at home. It’s an obvious platform where we could impact hundreds of kids in one day. That was an opportunity we didn’t want to pass up.” Camp Bandage - Grand Lake will once again be hosted by Grand Lake RV Resort at 31527 South 4510 Road, Afton, Okla., on Duck Creek. “Camp Bandage is an awesome safety program for kids with lots of activities for learning,” said Dianna McIntyre, owner and operator of Grand Lake RV Resort. “We thoroughly enjoy it and think it’s a wonderful experience.” If you would like to attend Camp Bandage, be a vendor or volunteer at the event, visit CampBandage.org/GrandLake or the Grand Lake Camp Bandage Facebook page for more information. ABOUT GRAND NATION Grand Nation is a nonprofit grassroots coalition that has been serving the Grand Lake area since 2012. June 8, 15, 22 & 29, 2021

Tuesdays in the Park ARTSOK the Regional Arts Alliance of Broken Arrow Tuesdays in the Park is a long-running success for arts in Broken Arrow. Tuesday evenings in June a musical performance is presented on an outdoor stage in Central Park. The grassy slope of the park provides an excellent amphitheater for the crowds relaxing and listening...and often dancing. Tuesdays in the Park is free to attend and appropriate for families. The Rose District in Downtown Broken Arrow offers visitors a great opportunity to spend extra time shopping, dining and enjoying the vibrant community. USA Today has listed the Rose District as Oklahoma’s entry for “Charming Main Streets Across the US”, so don’t miss the chance to check it out before the concert. Music lovers have been encouraged to bring blankets or folding chairs. Attendance ranges from 350 adults to 600, but each year the event is growing. A variety of food vendors donate a portion of profits to ARTSOK to support this event. All other expenses are funded by donors and grants. This year’s vendors include Broken Arrow Civitans famous hamburgers, Stu-B-Que, Andolinis and Ma & Pa’s Kettle Corn Music is selected for variety of style and presentation talent. Regional musical groups are eager to play one of the Tuesday evening concerts which draw people from all over. This year we are featuring these musical performers: June 8: We are excited to begin with Mary Cogan showcasing the best of country music with a fresh, inventive approach to the standards and a newborn authenticity to the latest hits. June 15: Since 2004 the Usual Suspects have been performing our own unique brand of rock & roll, dance, and blues music for crowds all over Oklahoma. June 22: We bring back the fabulous Grady Nichols. His crowd-pleasing performances have always been a huge hit at Titp! June 29: This will be huge with Zodiac, a pop/rock dance group with a multi-decade playlist of classic and contemporary pop hits our audience has always loved! As an added attraction, AVB is sponsoring our kid’s activity: Balloon Man Neil, for family fun. We appreciate the City of Broken Arrow, Arrow Exterminators, AVB and Tastee Treat as major event donors and all the other supporters of ARTSOK.
