Attendees may either bring an older work--any medium--or create a new one for rewriting purposes. Instructor: Michael Wright Instructor Bio: Michael Wright is an avid explorer of writing dedicated to examining the thousand-and-one questions about what makes humans so truly wondrous and downright contrary at the same time. His works range from novels and plays to poetry, radio drama and performance art/spoken word. Each new creative effort seeks out the possibility of continual experimentation with forms and pushing the limits of expression. Registration will close at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 20, 2023.

Greg and Kate have moved to Manhattan after twenty-two years of child-raising in the suburbs. Greg’s career as a financial trader is winding down, while Kate’s career, as a public-school English teacher, is beginning to offer her more opportunities. Greg brings home a dog he found in the park—or that has found him—bearing only the name “Sylvia” on her name tag. A street-smart mixture of Lab and poodle, (portrayed by a human actress) Sylvia becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife. She offers Greg an escape from the frustrations of his job and the unknowns of middle age. To Kate, Sylvia becomes a rival for affection. And Sylvia thinks Kate just doesn’t understand the relationship between man and dog. The marriage is put in serious jeopardy until, after a series of hilarious and touching complications, Greg and Kate learn to compromise, and Sylvia becomes a valued part of their lives. The Playhouse welcomes Director H. Levi Smiley! Levi is not new to the BACP stage but this will be his first time directing for us, we look forward to helping him bring his vision for Sylvia to our stage. Levi is a current theatre major at Tulsa Community College. He was honored in the spring of 2022 to be chosen as the first student director for TCC Theatre's first annual all-student production, Miss Alma's Rules. The production was honored with twelve Meritorious Achievement Awards of recognition from the Kennedy Center American Collegiate Theatre Festival including Achievement in Directing for Smiley, and Production Adaptability for the entire cast and crew. Smiley will graduate with an Associate's Degree in Theatre in May of this year. He plans to continue his education to earn his BFA in Theatre and his MFA in Theatre Directing. Levi is honored to be chosen to direct at BACP and looks forward to bringing Sylvia to life for the Broken Arrow audience! To assist him in this endeavor he has assembled an exceptional cast of local talent; Sylvia: Jenna Soltis, Greg: Troy Sageser, Kate: Kerry Kavanaugh, Tom/Phyllis/Leslie: Ryan Mash More information for this production can be obtained by calling the BACP at 918-258-0077. Woolly Weekend is a “sheep to shawl” festival held at Shepherd’s Cross, an authentic working sheep farm, just north of Claremore OK on Scenic Route 66. Come to the farm and watch as the sheep are shorn (given a haircut). Sheep shearing occurs throughout the day. After the fiber is shorn from the sheep you can watch the wool being processed on site. It will be combed, spun, woven, knit, crocheted, and felted into finished products. This is a true Sheep to Shawl Event. Over the three-day period at least three shawls will be created entirely from the wool shorn on the first morning of the event. It is rare to find a true Sheep to Shawl experience. Shearing and demonstrations take place inside the Amish built tour barn, which houses some of the animals as well as the wool processing, farm museum, and the gift shop. There are Short Course Fiber Classes available; learn drop spindling, hand carding, or needle felting during the event. Be sure to visit the Farm Animal Barn & pet the barnyard animals. Tour the educational interactive Farm Museum & Four Story Observation Silo, as well as the Bible Garden. Bring the entire family. Children’s activities include weaving, games, wool project, and coloring contest. This is a free event. Donations are welcome - suggested donation of $5 per person. If you have groups of twenty or more, please pre-register. Volunteers are needed to demonstrate fiber arts. If you spin, weave, knit, crochet, or needle felt you may join our Sheep to Shawl Team. Anyone who works with fiber is welcome. Inquire for additional information. Come shop at Shepherd’s Shop featuring a host of “woolly” and farm related handmade crafted by Shepherd’s Cross and over 50 local crafters; farm fresh USDA processed and Animal Welfare Approved meat (lamb and beef), Amish jams, health foods, yarns, and much more! Additionally, the shop features a mission section, where 100% of the sale price is returned to the indigenous craftsmen (countries include Afghanistan, Thailand, Kyrgyzstan, Malawi, Uganda and more). Our Shepherd’s Cross yarns are natural, chemical free, home grown and hand-picked here on the farm. The shop also offers roving, batts, felting supplies, spinning and weaving supplies, and much more. Fiber Arts classes, Animal Husbandry classes, and Shearing lessons are available at the farm throughout the year. Shepherd’s Cross is an accredited Agritourism facility, and a “Made in Oklahoma” Company. The farm is also Animal Welfare Approved. It is home to a non-profit Christian organization named Heart of the Shepherd that hosts this event. Teaching basic agricultural principles and their relationship to the Bible are instrumental in the educational component of the farm.
