The Rose Festival and Chalk It Up: An Art Festival!

October 1, 2023 | 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Once again for 2023, the Broken Arrow Rose Festival is joining forces with Chalk It Up! An Art Festival to provide a spectacular weekend full of free family-friendly fun. The Festival is a celebration of Broken Arrow’s return to its 1920-50’s history as The City of Roses and our city’s passion for roses and the arts. Friday evening Sept 29, 5-8:30 pm & Saturday, Sept 30, 9 am-6 pm, Broken Arrow invites you to its beautiful Rose District on Main Street, voted one of the nation’s top 50 Most Charming Main Streets by USA Today. Stop by The Rose Festival welcome booth for a free Rose Bracelet. Activities include Chalk It Up’s amazing chalk art competition and The Rose Festival’s Annual Rose Show. Garden experts will be on hand to answer your questions about roses, pollinators and Monarchs. The Rose Festival & Chalk It Up will combine to create an Art Contest with Art Exhibit in the Arts@302 Gallery. This year’s theme is “The Whimsey of the Garden.” Kids will find lots to do during the weekend festival with a big free KidZone with crafts and kite decoration on Friday evening & Saturday. Inspyral Circus returns with street performers and our very own stilt-walking Rose Prince & Princess. Enjoy their dazzling Glow Show at 8 pm Friday. The shops on Main Street will be open for festival-goers to shop and local artists will be showcasing their wares. Local restaurants and food trucks will be open to satisfy whatever your palate might desire. The Festival concludes Sunday, Oct 1st, 10 am-4 pm, with Rose Kites over Broken Arrow at the BA Event Park 21101 E 101st Street. Free kites to decorate with roses or whatever you like. Tulsa Wind Riders Kite Club will fly their large kites, have a Candy Drop, and demonstrate kite fighting! Also check out the huge Historical Kite Exhibit featuring kites from the 1800’s and World War II. Pack a picnic or enjoy the convenience of the food trucks and enjoy watching big, bigger & huge kites soar over the Broken Arrow sky. All events are free to the public. BlackGold Days

October 1, 2023 | 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

BlackGold Days family-friendly festival is in its 45th year, and is located in BlackGold Park in Glenpool, Oklahoma. It runs from Sept. 28 through Oct. 1 with more than 10,000 attendees expected to experience the largest event of the year for the community. It also attracts vendors from all over Oklahoma and surrounding states. VIP Night is free for sponsors on Sept. 28; $1 carnival-ride night is Sept. 28; included in the festival is a KidZone, a pie-baking contest, a chili cook-off, a petting zoo, carnival rides and a beer garden. There is FREE admission; FREE parking, and FREE live entertainment.

The Halloween Festival at the Castle of Muskogee The Halloween Festival at the Castle of Muskogee will be open each Friday & Saturday during October 2023. Gates will be open from 5:30pm until 10pm. The Country Bumpkin Pumpkin Patch

Create new family memories with a trip to the Country Bumpkin Pumpkin Patch in Bartlesville each fall. Open seasonally from late September through the end of October, the Country Bumpkin is more than just a pumpkin patch. The Hex House

Travel to Tulsa for The Hex House, northeast Oklahoma's extreme haunted attraction. The Hex House is an intense, multi-element, walk-through haunted house attraction themed around a dark chapter in Tulsa's haunted past. The original Hex House was involved in a 1944 police investigation surrounding a small casket buried in the backyard of a Tulsa house and two young women who had been under hypnotic or occult control for seven years. The investigation was nicknamed the "Hex House" case since it had all the spooky elements of a Halloween story. The original Hex House become a favorite site for young Tulsans to visit on Halloween for years after the case was settled. Now, The Hex House is back, ready to bring your most terrifying fears to life this Halloween season.Do not come to The Hex House if you expect movie scenes or goofy props. About the instructor Eric Howerton is a Teaching Associate Professor of English at OSU Stillwater, an avid hiker, skier, musician, gardener, hot sauce purveyor, and mushroom forager. Pumpkin Festival at Shepherd's Cross & Heart of the Shepherd

Pumpkin Festival at Shepherd’s Cross & Heart of the Shepherd September 26 – November 4, 2023 Tuesday – Saturday 9:00 am - 6:30 pm Open Monday, October 30th Join Shepherd’s Cross and Heart of the Shepherd for their annual Pumpkin Festival. Enjoy a peaceful day in the country at an authentic working sheep farm, located just north of Claremore off Route 66. Filled with family-friendly activities with no scares. Loads of pumpkins in all shapes, sizes, and colors for purchase, starting at $1.50 each. Admission and parking are free. The only pay-for activity is the Wagon Ride. Enjoy a tractor-pulled wagon ride on a ramp-loading trailer through the hay meadow. Wagon ride tickets are available for $6.50 per person; 2 and under are free. Wagon rides are every 30 minutes. There are over 60 free activities to enjoy on the farm. Explore the walk-through Pumpkin Patch with Hay Maze and Game Area. Pet sheep, goats, horses, donkeys, and alpacas in the Farm Animal Barn petting area. Walk the Bible Garden and see pumpkins growing on the vine surrounded by sunflowers and fall flowers. All new this year is our QR Code Scavenger Hunt. Look around the farm for QR codes to scan and watch short videos about farming and shepherding. Pumpkin Packages are available to purchase, which include a pumpkin (size of pumpkin varies with type of package), wagon ride, and a take-home craft or bring some old clothes to make your own scarecrow. Packages start at $9.50 per person. Inside the Amish-built barn browse the gift shop with handmade décor, gifts, and wares from 60 local consignors as well as local honey, meat, and eggs; explore the Farm Museum and Silo with the all new animated Percy the Perfect Pumpkin story time, and watch fiber demonstrations in the Wool Mill. There are modern indoor restrooms. Shepherd’s Cross is an accredited Agritourism facility, a Made in Oklahoma Company, and a Grass-Fed, Grass-Finished Animal Welfare Approved farm. Heart of the Shepherd is the non-profit organization (501-C3) that operates at the farm. Heart of the Shepherd teaches Biblical references to the harvest, the animals, farming, and gardening. Because of their generosity, admission to Pumpkin Festival is free and operates by donations. Suggested donation is $5 per person; suggested, not required. All donations benefit Heart of the Shepherd’s international and local mission outreach programs.

Pelican Festival

This annual event celebrates the fall migration of the American White Pelicans that return to the waters of northeast Oklahoma’s beautiful Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees. Interested only in the passions of the spirit, and not the flesh, Medusa feels she has no choice but to reject the greedy God. For this, she not only suffers violence at the hand of Poseidon, but also incites a deep-seated jealousy in Athena, with horrific and disturbing consequences. Medusa Undone explores how rape culture reverberates through the ages, and calls attention to the great injustice suffered by female victims of abuse. Warning, Medusa Undone contains discussions and depictions of sexual assault. Medusa Undone was the winner of the 8th Annual New Play Festival at Pandora Productions.

Tallgrass Music Festival

October 6-7, 2023

The annual Tallgrass Music Festival in Skiatook is a fun-filled family event that features top-notch bluegrass music. Join hundreds of visitors that descend upon the Tallgrass Music Festival, previously known as the Skiatook Bluegrass Festival. Festival-goers are encouraged to stay and camp while listening to the lively sounds of traditional bluegrass. Talented bluegrass artists will take the main stage Friday and Saturday to entertain crowds with original tunes, fiddle competitions and more. The 2023 lineup includes the Finley River Boys, The Bazemores, Midnight Hollow, The Roving Gamblers and Springstreet. Multiple food and craft vendors will be set up, so make your way to the Tallgrass Music Festival and plan to stay awhile. The grounds include shaded seating, as well as water and electric hookups. Children's activities will also be available, so bring the whole family and prepare to be entertained. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy a great band lineup at annual Skiatook festival.

OK Mozart Festival Oktoberfest

Cherokee Art Market

The annual Cherokee Art Market will feature over 150 elite First American artists nationwide. Representing 47 federally-recognized tribes, these artists converge in the Sequoyah Grand Ballroom of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa to showcase their talents. See fine First American artwork on display and for sale, including beadwork, pottery, painting, basketry, sculptures and textiles. 20 different categories will be judged and a total of $75,000 will be awarded to winning artists. A youth competition featuring the artwork of 6th through 12th-grade students is also scheduled. Visitors will also enjoy cultural demonstrations such as flint knapping, basket weaving and storytelling.
