Navajo Weaving Class – Weekend Retreat

January 12-14, 2017 | 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Navajo Weaving Class – Weekend Retreat January 12, 13 & 14 – Thursday, Friday & Saturday 8:30 am – 3:30 pm Need a relaxing new hobby or a great Weekend “get away” with family or friends? Learn how to Navajo Weave in one weekend in this is a basic weaving class. Fiber work is soothing and wonderful. Each participant will take home many finished products. We provide materials. Bring a sack lunch each day. We provide snacks and beverages at two break times each day. Our classes go a step farther - we teach some history of fiber arts, and practical technology. Retreat Fee: $299. No hidden fees, rental fees or materials fees. All are included in the weekend package. Participants will need to bring their own loom with them. Participants will be given a design for building their own loom to bring with them if they do not have a loom. Additionally, we will be available to assist with building looms the week preceding the class if participants need assistance, OR rent a loom from us for $100. Come to the farm and enjoy the peace of a few hours spent in the country. Retreat held at Shepherd’s Cross, an authentic working farm, just north of Claremore OK on Scenic Route 66. Shepherd’s Cross is home to Heart of the Shepherd Inc., a public, non-profit Christian organization (501-C3) that teaches Biblical references to the harvest, the animals, farming and gardening. Biblical references are found throughout the farm experience. Shepherd’s Cross is an accredited Agritourism facility, a Made in Oklahoma Company, a member of the Claremore Farmer’s Market, an Animal Welfare Approved sheep farm, a producer for and distribution site for the Oklahoma Food Co-op. Tulsa Symphony – Beethoven’s 4th Symphony

MENDELSSOHN The Hebrides RAVEL Le tombeau de Couperin RAVEL Tzigane BEETHOVEN Symphony No. 4 Inspiration shows up anywhere and everywhere. Mendelssohn, a lover of nature, found inspiration in the natural acoustics of a sea cave in the InneTur Hebrides of Scotland. The idea for Ravel’s Le tombeau de Couperin came forth on a battlefield in World War I, and his Hungarian musical style of Tzigane, after hearing a private concert of a talented Hungarian violinist. While catching his breath before returning to the heroic struggles of the Fifth Symphony, Beethoven found inspiration for his illuminating Symphony No. 4 while retiring in the country estate of a devoted admirer. Saturday January 14th, 2017 11:30- 2:30 Lamb Cook-Off - Meal 11:30 - 12:45 Appreciation of 2016 Volunteers & Donors 12:45 - 1:15 Dessert & Fellowship: 1:15 - 2:30 We want to extend a heart-felt welcome to all donors and volunteers from 2016. If you volunteered or donated during 2016 in any capacity you and your family are invited. • Meal will be our very own AWA farm fresh lamb meat cooked in a variety of dishes. If you want to cook a lamb dish simply call or come by and pick up some meat to bring prepared for the meal. We also have recipes if you need some. Many cooks provide a great variety of dishes for this event. Haven’t cooked lamb before? No problem. Here is your chance to try . . . on us! • Join as we celebrate our volunteers, donors, and workers. • This is a free event. Donations are welcome. • Heart of the Shepherd is operated almost entirely with volunteers from our local community and beyond. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all of those who have so generously given of time and resources to support this mission. Nathan Gunn has made a reputation as one of the most exciting and in-demand baritones of the day. He has appeared in internationally renowned opera houses such as the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Royal Opera House, Paris Opera, Glyndebourne Opera Festival, Theater an der Wien, and Teatro Real in Madrid. Also a distinguished concert performer, Mr. Gunn has appeared with the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Mr. Gunn will be accompanied in this recital of opera and pop favorites by his wife Julie Gunn.
