Brown Bag It 2017-18 Series Announced for Tulsa PAC Trust

February 7, 2018 | 12:10 - 12:50 p.m.

The Tulsa Performing Arts Center Trust’s Brown Bag It free noontime concert series on select Wednesdays at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center is back with another exciting line-up. The popular series, which was established in the early 1980s, is once again returning to the first Wednesday of every month, with the exception of January. Vocalist Janet Rutland kicks off the 2017-18 Brown Bag It season. Janet is equally comfortable singing Hank Williams or Johnny Mercer. Rutland will be accompanied by pianist Spencer Sutton for a set of vintage pop, jazz and country music. The mission of the series is to offer the community an opportunity to visit the Performing Arts Center facility and hear quality musical presentations. Audiences are invited to bring and eat lunch during the concerts, creating an informal atmosphere. ORU's President's Performing Arts & Lecture Series Welcomes Award-winning Violinist

February 15, 2018 | 7 p.m.

Tulsa, OK – Oral Roberts University’s President’s Performing Arts and Lecture Series is excited to bring one of the world’s foremost violinists to Tulsa’s Performing Arts Center. Award-winning Canadian violinist James Ehnes will perform February 15, 2018 at 7pm in the John H. Williams Theatre. Ehnes won a Grammy Award in the ‘Best Instrumental Soloist Performance’ category for his recording of Korngold, Barber and Walter violin concertos. He’s also been awarded a Gramophone Award for his live recording of the Elgar Concerto with Sir Andrew Davis and the Philharmonia Orchestra. In 2009 the Times (London) wrote that “no collection of virtuoso showpieces demands greater technical prowess than Paganini’s 24 Caprices. Yet James Ehnes, whose artistry suggests that in Paganini’s age he would have enjoyed similar stature to the great man, succeeds impressively in being more than merely thrilling…this is not simply a high-wire act. It’s playing of phenomenal control, allied to musicianship of the highest order.” Ehnes began violin studies at the age of four and became a protégé of the noted Canadian violinist Francis Chaplin when he was nine. He made his orchestral debut at 13 and graduated from The Juilliard School in 1997. Tickets for this concert must be purchased, either by calling 918-596-7111 or by going online to tulsapac.com. The cost ranges from $35 to $100, with the $100 tickets including a meet-and-greet with James Ehnes before the concert. Dress is Business Professional. It is sure to be a night to remember.
