New Orleans Square is hosting the first annual Block Party! Summary: The City of Broken Arrow is hosting the first annual Block Party in New Orleans Square. This Block Party is going to be a family friendly and fun filled time with a steak cook-off, car show, kid’s zone, live music, food trucks, vendors, and the grand finale will be a firework show! The most exciting component of the Block Party will be the unveiling of the logo and branding for New Orleans Square. The City of Broken Arrow contracted BrandEra to help form a logo and brand for the New Orleans and Elm area. Having this branding will help to create an identity for this intersection and therefore increase growth and traffic. With the guidance of BrandEra and the City Council, we are very excited to unveil this logo. It will be a big night for the square! “New Orleans Square is in the beginning stages of rebranding & the revitalization of this area is already happening on every corner!” said Christi Gillespie, Vice Mayor and City Councilor for Ward 3, which includes New Orleans Square. “I am thrilled the merchants of New Orleans Square are partnering with the city to hold this Patriotic Block Party, which is sure to be an annual occurrence. Bring your family & friends & join us as we kick off the holiday weekend on July 1, complete with a steak cook-off and family-friendly activities, including a fireworks finale!” The Steak Cookoff Association is sanctioning the steak cook-off portion of the event providing judges and expertise. Register today and you could win $1,000! For more information and to sign up go to steakcookoffs.com. Come out, enjoy a patriotic evening, and help Broken Arrow look forward to the future of New Orleans Square! Located at the Northwest quadrant at the intersection of E New Orleans St and S Elm Pl

United in Faith Worldwide! Jehovah’s Witnesses Hold Global Virtual Event in 240 Lands, 500+ Languages TULSA, Okla. — July 2, 2021 — Breaking a century-old tradition in the name of health and safety, the largest convention organization in the world has moved its annual in-person event to a virtual format for the second time in as many years, canceling nearly 6,000 conventions in 240 lands. For many years, summers in Tulsa have featured Jehovah’s Witnesses streaming into the city to take over hotels and fill restaurants as they held their conventions at various venues. In 2020, the pandemic unexpectedly interrupted that tradition, moving the international religious organization to cancel in-person conventions throughout the world and launch a global virtual event. This was a first for Jehovah’s Witnesses, who have held public conventions in stadiums, arenas, convention centers, and theaters around the world since 1897. “Powerful by Faith!” is the theme of the 2021 global event, which will be delivered in more than 500 languages to households throughout the globe over six weekends during July and August 2021, uniting some 15-20 million people in 240 countries. Since the convention is typically held from Friday through Sunday, the program will be available in six installments corresponding to morning and afternoon sessions. “Friday” morning’s session is available for streaming or download beginning June 28, 2021. Jeremy and Lacy Merritt of Tulsa are looking forward to the convention. Reflecting on this year’s program theme, Lacy said, “I feel like many people view faith in an abstract way. Yet, when investigated, the scriptures reveal how it’s based on evidence and reason.” Jeremy appreciates the convention’s virtual format and hopes the public will tune in and find solace amid world conditions. “After watching global events unfold over this past year, I hope that as many people as possible watch the convention sessions on jw.org. The problems and challenges that plague our global society continue to get worse and seem insurmountable. I know these convention sessions will reinforce why we need faith and how we can obtain it,” Jeremy said. The continued risk of bringing thousands of people together in cities around the world prompted the organization to opt for a virtual platform for the second consecutive year. However, the move has not curbed the enthusiasm for the annual event. Congregations around the world are inviting the public to join them in this historic occasion. “Faith has helped our global brotherhood to continue to thrive even during a pandemic,” said Robert Hendriks for Jehovah’s Witnesses. “Our faith will continue to unite us in worship — even virtually — as millions gather in private homes around the world to enjoy a powerful and inspiring spiritual program.” All are invited to attend the event by going to jw.org on the web or JW Broadcasting on the free JW Library iOS or Android App, or on streaming platforms like Roku TV, Apple TV, and others. The program is free and accessible to all. The schedule for download and global streaming is listed below. Tulsa Community College’s Children’s Summer Theatre presents Alice in Wonderland, a Virtual Zoom production. Tulsa Community College Tulsa Children's Summer Theatre presents a virtual production of Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll and adapted by William Glennon. It is being directed by Mark Frank. The production will be presented on Zoom July 29, 30, 31st at 7pm. The Webinar Zoom address to join the fun for free in the comfort of your own home is 929 9437 1436. There will be a set and costume design presentation at 6:30pm. This new version of Alice in Wonderland with a cast of twenty-one children ages 7-17 is so close to the original in intention and feeling that you might suspect that Lewis Carroll himself had written it. And yet, it includes many unusual and imaginative devices that bring the fantasy characters of Wonderland to life. In this new adaptation, a group of performers seeks out Alice in order to provide "her turn" in Wonderland. And, as her adventure unfolds, they play the many characters she encounters and grows to love. The play runs fifty minutes with no intermission. This is Children’s Summer Theatre’s twenty-sixth season and 8th season in Tulsa at TCC. Find us on Facebook https://fb.me/e/GG4U7BqF
