The Road To Backwoods Begins at Cain’s Ballroom

Backwoods Music Festival (formerly known as Backwoods Bash) is an independent music and camping festival promoting original music and rising talent. The festival is also home to art, workshops, and a variety of fun for all ages. Though its promoters announced cancellation in 2024, the festival now returns with Backwoods & Friends at Cain’s Ballroom on November 22, 2026.

For Dr. Trevor Lane the cancellation of Backwoods Music Festival was like hearing from his college-aged son stranded on the side of the road. Though Lane parted ways a decade earlier with the festival he created, he expected a time may come when it re-entered his life. While the Internet declared Backwoods’ seventeen-year run was over, Lane saw a pathway to revitalization and got to work on bringing it home.

The festival was not dead, it just needed some roadside assistance, a home-cooked meal and a new plan.

Bringing Backwoods Back to Oklahoma

After more than 26 months of work, Dr. Lane and his team are unveiling their roadmap to bring Backwoods back to Oklahoma. Like a phoenix rising from the campfire ashes, Backwoods & Friends at Cain’s Ballroom marks the third chapter for the festival.

“Its been a heavy lift but we’ve done this before,” explains Dr. Lane, referring to the first Backwoods Bash in 2008 performed on flatbed trailers at Thundermoon Ranch before growing to the shores of Keystone Lake. “We have the name, the idea of what Backwoods is and should be,” he continues, “but most importantly, we have our relationships and experience. This kickoff event at Cain’s serves as a reunion for the Backwoods family, an effort to gather the best of what the festival represents and build the road to Backwoods.”

Backwoods Original Gigsters

Backwoods & Friends benefits the Red Dirt Relief Fund and will feature live music from Branjae and Red Dirt Rangers, a VIP pre-party and silent auction, and appearances from “Backwoods Original Gigsters” - performers and artists with deep ties to the festival who support the revitalization effort. Expect a “Backwoods vibe” with a midway of local artisans and encounters with your favorite performers. Award-winning artists Semurai Designs, Rainbowland Arts, “Buckaroo Bart” Taylor, folk duo Desi and Cody, Joe Mack, Paul Benjaman, Steve Liddell and new band Friend of Mine are just some of the “Backwoods O.G.s” expected to make appearances.
