The Tristesse Grief Center will have their 5th annual Hike for Healing at Turkey Mountain on Saturday, March 5th. Sign-in starts at 8:00 a.m. and the run begins at 9:00 a.m. Hike for Healing is a 5K and Memorial Mile raising money to provide professional grief counseling to those who cannot afford to pay. “Hike for Healing started out as a memorial event for our clients,” says Tyler Caldwell, Board Member at The Grief Center and Co-Chair of the 2016 Hike, “And each year it has grown more and more. It is now open to everyone in the community.” “Hike for Healing is exactly what it sounds like: a chance to heal,” says Amanda Shank, Co-Chair of Hike for Healing 2016. “The hike is all about remembering those we have lost, and creating happy memories while honoring our loved ones. That message is universal and touches everyone, whether you’re an experienced runner or not.” “Hike for Healing is unique in Tulsa because it is a trail run,” says Caldwell. “It’s held at Turkey Mountain, which is a beautiful piece of natural Oklahoma. There’s something therapeutic about running through those trails.” Trail running has become a phenomenon in its own right, and hike participants will be able to run or walk the blue trail through beautiful Turkey Mountain. The red trail is being used as the Memorial Mile track. “It is more than just a 5K because it’s about emotional healing as well as physical health,” Shank says. “This cause is close to my heart because I’ve experienced loss. I’m honored to be able to raise money that will help people in need get professional counseling.” Registration for Hike for Healing is $30 for adults (11+), $20 for Grief Center clients, and free for children. Registration includes a race bib, a t-shirt, and the after party. Runners can register online at Hike4Healing2016.Eventbrite.com, visit facebook.com/TheGriefCenter, check out Twitter @TheGriefCenter, or call The Grief Center at 918.587.1200 for more information.
