This October, join Tulsa City-County Library (TCCL) in celebrating Teens Read Month with free programming for tweens and teens. Teens Read Month is an annual initiative all about reading for pleasure.
Beginning Oct. 1, teens and tweens can participate in free Teens Read Month events, including:
“Creative Writing Club” on Wednesdays, Oct. 1 and 15 from 4-5 p.m. at Judy Z. Kishner Library, 10150 N. Cincinnati Ave. E., Sperry. Do you want to learn how to write creatively or develop your writing skills? If so, join our creative writing club. All skill levels are welcome; no experience required.
“Dungeons & Dragons: Roll for Adventure” on Thursday, Oct. 2 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St. Join us for an afternoon of D&D fun where we will create unique characters and brainstorm imaginative worlds.
“Petrifying Picture Books” on Tuesday, Oct. 7 from 4-5 p.m. at South Broken Arrow Library, 3600 S. Chestnut Ave. Join us as we create ominous books of the picture variety and sample spooky snacks.
“Cosplay and Anime Movie Night” on Tuesday, Oct. 7 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Collinsville Library, 1223 W. Main St. Come dressed as a favorite anime/manga character and enjoy an anime film with some snacks and drinks. The film is rated PG.
“Graphic Novel Workshop” on Thursday, Oct. 9 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at Charles Page Library, 551 E. Fourth St., Sand Springs. Join local artist Lucy Smith and learn the basics of creating comics and graphic novels and then practice some of the techniques in this workshop for teens. Supplies are provided, but are limited.
“DIY Book Title Stories” on Thursday, Oct. 9 from 4-5 p.m. at Broken Arrow Library, 300 W. Broadway. Use a variety of book titles to make up short stories and poems.
“Teen Space: Solar Print Bookmarks” on Friday, Oct. 10 from 4-5 p.m. at Nathan Hale Library, 6038 E. 23rd St. Celebrate World Space Week by harnessing the power of the sun to make a custom, solar print bookmark.
“Teen Advisory Board: Volunteer and Craft Series” on Friday, Oct. 10 from 4-5:30 p.m. at Pratt Library, 3219 S. 113th W. Ave., Sand Springs. Design your own embroidered monster using line-drawn embroidery. Then, create a handmade zine, where you’ll bring your monster to life by writing an original short story.
“Mutant Teenage Zombification” on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Glenpool Library, 730 E. 141st St. Transform toys into zombies, ghosts, witches or any other Halloween creature. You may bring your own toy or select one of ours. Supplies are limited. Registration is required.
“Graphic Novel Club” on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at Nathan Hale Library. Join us for a literary celebration of the graphic novel adaptation of Mary Downing Hahn's spooky novel "All the Lovely Bad Ones."
“Faux Bug Taxidermy” on Monday, Oct. 13 from 4-5 p.m. at Skiatook Library, 316 E. Rogers. Join us to turn creepy-crawlies into total glow-ups! Paint a fake insect, mount it on a plaque and then add your own flair.
“Creepy Crafts” on Wednesday, Oct. 15 from 3:30-5 p.m. at Maxwell Park Library, 1313 N. Canton Ave. Create a creepy craft that will inspire you to read!
“Blackout Poetry” on Wednesday, Oct. 15 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at Herman and Kate Kaiser Library, 5202 S. Hudson Ave. Writing on books? It's okay! Strike through the pages of gently used donated books. Brandish a permanent marker and write your own poems by the method of creative negation. Registration is required.
“Teen Lounge: Video Games and Bookmark Crafting” on Thursday, Oct. 16 from 4-5:30 p.m. at Collinsville Library. Join us for video games, crafts and snacks. All supplies are provided.
“Teen Book Bingo” on Thursday, Oct. 16 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at Martin Regional Library, 2601 S. Garnett Road. Get a bingo, choose a book! Get five in a row on your bingo board and choose a book to keep from our teen book cart.
“Spooky Spellbooks” on Thursday, Oct. 16 from 5-7 p.m. at Schusterman-Benson Library, 3333 E. 32nd Place. Join us for a cozy evening of transforming journals into spooky spellbooks, sipping cider and watching a classic Halloween movie (rated PG). Snacks and spooky vibes included.
“Spooky Miniature Bookshelves” on Thursday, Oct. 16 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Bixby Library, 20 E. Breckenridge. Create a tiny bookshelf in a repurposed mint tin, then decorate it with spooky accessories. Registration is required.
“Blackout Poetry Slam” on Thursday, Oct. 16 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Zarrow Regional Library, 2224 W. 51st St. Make poetry from old book pages, then take the mic and share your work — or just chill with a snack and listen.
“Teen Craft and Movie Night” on Thursday, Oct. 16 from 6-8 p.m. at Central Library, Fifth Street and Denver Avenue. Join us for a night of crafts, popcorn and community. Just bring your imagination and a blanket and enjoy fall crafts and a movie in our garden. All materials are provided.
“Comic Book Workshop With Carl Antonowicz” on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 1-2:30 p.m. at Central Library. Join graphic novelist Carl Antonowicz for a fun and engaging introduction to comic book creation.
“Super SWAP! Superhero Comic Book Fans Meetup and Book Swap” on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 2-4 p.m. at Rudisill Regional Library, 1520 N. Hartford. Come meet other fans of popular comic books and swap your old comics for new ones! We'll have games, crafts and a cosplay contest, as well as comics to check out.
“DIY Book Edge Painting” on Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 6-7 p.m. at Jenks Library, 523 W. B St. Learn how to make your own custom editions of your favorite books by painting the edges. Books are provided. Registration is required.
“The Book Was Better ... Movie Night!” on Thursday, Oct. 23 from 4-5:45 p.m. at Nathan Hale Library. We'll watch a movie that is based on a book and chat about it. If you have never read the book, don't worry! The movie is based on a classic novel set in Tulsa.
“Teen Horror Book Club” on Thursday, Oct. 30 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at Bronson Brookside Library, 4607 S. Madison Place. Join Robin to talk about your favorite horror novels and stories. Snacks are provided, while supplies last. For teens.
“Spooky Trivia Night” on Thursday, Oct. 30 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Skiatook Library. Think you know all things Halloween? From creepy facts to horror, this trivia night is packed with chills and prizes. Bring your squad or fly solo. For ages 13-17.
