When Pete Sullivan of Reface It America talks about cabinet refinishing, you quickly realize it’s not just paint, it’s precision. “The industry calls it refinishing because it’s a step up from regular painting,” he says, likening the detail to how auto painters handle their work. After nearly five decades in the business, Pete knows something about getting the job done right.
Pete’s roots are in commercial and industrial paint, and that background brings a level of craftsmanship rare in the Tulsa remodeling scene. “Many people start in cabinets and move into refinishing,” he says, “but I came from the paint side. I’ve been doing this since 1975, and there’s not much I haven’t seen.”
Whether it’s a 1992 kitchen needing a facelift or a new build requiring custom touches, Pete’s process is as thorough as it is thoughtful. From carefully taping off kitchen edges to building an in-home spray booth for that flawless finish, each job is tailored for minimal disruption and maximum transformation. “We average four to seven days in a kitchen,” Pete explains. “We do all the heavy lifting off-site. Doors and drawers are sprayed in the shop, so there’s no mess at home.”
And these aren’t your typical paints either. Pete uses European coatings from Italy that harden chemically and smell more like household cleaners than lacquer. “It’s got to resist grease, fingerprints, kids—all the chaos a kitchen takes,” he notes.

Still, for Pete, the work goes beyond aesthetics. “It’s about helping people improve their lives,” he says. “You upgrade a kitchen and suddenly people cook more, stay in more. They fall back in love with their homes.” He’s also deeply connected to his community, involved in family life, ministry, and mentoring—his own story includes over 50 years of sobriety and decades of fostering youth.
Pete also brings a collaborative flair to the design process, often creating mock-ups and custom samples for clients who want to test a color or finish. “If they’re worried about going green on the island, I’ll bring them a sprayed sample so they can see it in their lighting,” he shares. It’s a small touch that makes a big difference in reducing stress for homeowners.
With trends slowly catching up to coastal markets, Tulsa is seeing more modern tones. Think off-white cabinets paired with blue or green islands, and shaker-style doors with slimmer rails. But Pete doesn’t push fads. “Everyone’s different,” he says. “You listen, you guide, and you build something they’re proud to show off.”
For those considering a kitchen update, Pete has one simple ask: “Just give me the opportunity to show you what I can do.” With hundreds of kitchens under his belt, his track record speaks volumes. So if your cabinets need a second life or your kitchen is begging for a refresh, maybe it’s time to Reface It—with Pete Sullivan at the helm.
