The Jewish Federation of Tulsa Council for Holocaust Education presents, in conjunction with the annual Kristallnacht Commemoration (November 6 at All Souls Unitarian Church), the powerful documentary, As Seen Through These Eyes, narrated by Maya Angelou, Sunday, November 2 at 3 pm at the Circle Cinema. The film is free and open to all.
As Seen Through These Eyes is a never-before-seen window into the surviving art and artists of the Holocaust. This film is more than a Holocaust Study; it offers an incredible look at the survival mechanism of humankind and the profound need to communicate at any cost.
As Maya Angelou narrates this powerful documentary, she reveals the story of a brave group of people who fought Hitler with the only weapons they had: charcoal, pencil stubs, shreds of paper, and memories etched in their minds. These artists took their fate into their own hands to make a compelling statement about the human spirit, enduring against unimaginable odds.
The film includes a post-film discussion with producer Amy Janes. Amy is an Emmy-winning documentary series editor and an award-winning feature documentary producer. She is the co-owner of Oklahoma's first working film and TV sound stage, Green Pastures Studio. She uses her storytelling skills as the Executive Producer at the LA-based agency Fanology where her team creates content for brands, studios, and celebrities in the digital space. For many years, Janes was the VP of Production for a Paramount shingle after graduating from UCLA with her MFA in the Producing Program. Her love for documentary filmmaking goes back to the beginning of her career, where she edited films for PBS. Whether producing award-winning campaigns or leading one of the country’s most dynamic film festivals, Amy remains deeply committed to creativity, community, and the transformative power of film.
