The Tulsa Rock and Mineral Society was established in 1958 with the mission of promoting interest in collecting rocks, minerals, fossils and artifacts, gem stones, jewelry-making, working with the lapidary arts, and sharing knowledge about the earth sciences. Members of the Tulsa Rock and Mineral Society share a love of rocks, and enjoy numerous club benefits including monthly field trips, workshops, meetings, and newsletters.
Led by Club President Roberta Wagle and Vice President Steffanie Keefer, education is a primary focus of the Tulsa Rock and Mineral Society. They support education by providing programs for schools and adult groups year-round, and providing funds for scholarships in the earth sciences. They build and donate curriculum boxes designed to encourage rock and mineral exploration by students, and provide guest speakers for educational presentations or demonstrations in classrooms. The Society also supports education through it's Pebble Pups program, a monthly meeting for junior rockhounds.
The Tulsa Rock, Gem, Mineral and Jewelry Show is a much-anticipated annual club event. This fun and educational event features exhibits, demonstrations, a Kid's Zone and more.
