Owner and Master Designer Cathy Schmitt earned her license in general cosmetology from Tulsa Technology Center in 1993. A graduate of Owasso High School, she used her skills to put herself through Northeastern State University, where she earned her Bachelors in psychology.

“At the time I was starting, I honestly thought I’d be terrible,” said Cathy, “but come to find out I had a real knack for it. I love what I do. It’s probably one of the most fun jobs I’ve ever had.”

The Owasso native practiced her craft for 14 years in Tulsa before returning exclusively to her hometown. She opened Salon Pure Loft off of Main Street in 2011.  As her client base grew, she decided to move to her current space off Owasso Expressway, just south of Classic Chevrolet. A lover of the environment, Cathy has one goal in mind: to offer clients the freshest styles and ideas without increasing her carbon footprint.

“I chose the name Salon Pure because I have passion for the environment,” Cathy said. “We have stations to recycle our plastic and aluminum products. We do a lot of upcycling for our décor, which you can see in our pallet wall and the coat rack. Even on the products we use, we keep it green with eco-friendly and ammonia-free hair color.”

The Salon Pure team continuously educates themselves on new product lines. They carry products such as Olaplex, Goldwell color, Pureology, Kevin Murphy, CND Shellac and Keratin smoothing treatments by Coppola. The salon also features a back bar with refills on shampoos and conditioners for a discount.

Cathy is currently mentoring two stylists in hopes of expanding her staff and the services the salon offers. Her sixteen-year-old daughter, Averie, also helps part-time with reception work and assisting stylists in whatever ways they need.

“I love this community,” says Cathy. “I went to school in Owasso and all three of my kids, Averie being the youngest, have been in Owasso schools. I like to give back to this community in whatever ways I can. My clients are like my family. Some of them even call me the hair-a-pist because of my psychology background.”

The salon specializes in color, color correction, cutting, styling, balayage and haircuts for men, women and children. Other services offered include manicures, pedicures and massages, all by appointment. Prices vary based on customer and individual needs. Salon hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cathy and her staff are accommodating to almost any schedule for special events and onsite hair and makeup.  For tips, discounts, specials and flash sales, follow Salon Pure on Facebook and Instagram.

The hair-a-pist is in.  Call Salon Pure to see how you can love your hair and the earth this winter.
