Plans for the annual Boot-Scooting BBQ Festival are cooking in Claremore! The event is proudly presented by the Reveille Rotary Club. The BBQ is a Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned cooking competition. Around thirty cooks from near and far, from newbie to veteran, will be competing for cash prizes, a chance to advance to the next level of competition and good old-fashioned bragging rights.

Admission is free. For a culinary adventure, however, tasting kits are available for purchase onsite on the day of the event, beginning at 12:30 pm. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children, ages 12 and under. Actual taste-testing runs from 1 pm to 2 pm, or until the food runs out. Tasters are invited to cast their votes for the People’s Choice award which will be presented, along with the other official awards, at the ceremony at 3:30 pm.

In addition to the barbecue, there will be boot-scootin’, toe-tappin’ music from a live DJ as well as a smorgasbord of activities available to delight each family member, young and old. Feast your eyes on a range of years and models at this year’s Chevy car show. Area wineries and artisan booths will provide shopping opportunities for attendees as well.  And, the younger set will enjoy the many children’s activities planned for the day—from a climbing wall provided by the National Guard to inflatables. Still needing a little something to fill your tummy, or, maybe one of the kids is not a big barbecue fan? Food trucks will also offer kid-friendly fare for purchase. “This is a safe, family-oriented event for some great family fun,” explains Tanya Andrews, event Chair.

The Reveille (meaning “early morning”) Rotary Club is a civic-minded organization that meets in the morning for the purpose of networking and serving Rogers County. Its special emphasis is on youth. The proceeds from the Boots and BBQ Festival fundraiser go toward helping with the clubs many projects such as: purchasing and distributing personalized dictionaries to every county third grader, providing school supplies to 500 kids at the Rogers County Back to School Bash, assisting in sending youth to a leadership academy, and donating to the Marine’s Toys for Tots, just to name a few.

Come hungry, and leave with your tummy and heart full for a great cause!
