The Rogers County United Way will kick off their 2010 campaign drive by inviting the public to a free outdoor rock ’n roll concert. The event will take place at Claremore’s Ne-Mar Center on September 16 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The public is invited free of charge. Some seating will be provided, but attendees should bring lawn chairs. The event organizers hope to inspire and motivate new and past donors by providing a fun event and information about how Rogers County United Way dollars support local charitable agencies.

The Vikings band is made up of local professional and business men. Members of the band from Claremore include Dr. Darryl Reed, Larry Melton, Danny Widener, Terry Miller and Gary Driver. Bill Jones, Dr. David McElwain and Dr. Mike Jennings are all members who grew up in Claremore and now live in surrounding areas. The band was formed in the 1960s, when the guys were in high school and played at teen dances at the Claremore Civic Center, and other surrounding communities as well. The band will be playing 1960s rock ’n roll.

Cars from the ’60s and ’70s will be on display, and the public can vote for their favorites to win the “Coolest Car Contest” by dropping donations in the cars’ ballot boxes. Melton Sales will also have new cars on display.

Spot Lite Magic and Costumes’ Magic Mike and Huffy the Clown will be on hand to entertain the kids. And the kids can have their faces painted like ’60s flower children.

The local agencies that are supported by Rogers County United Way dollars will have booths set up on the sidewalk to demonstrate their programs and services. The program will include testimonials from local citizens who have been helped by a United Way agency.

Sponsors for the event are 1st Bank Oklahoma, RCB Bank, Melton Sales, Grand Bank and Ne-Mar Center.
