Approximately 80 percent of those living in North America are going to be affected by the agonizing reality of chronic back and neck pain. Problems can result in permanent loss of function and force us to give up some of the things we previously enjoyed doing.

Spinal Decompression Zone is owned by a medical doctor, a doctor of osteopathic medicine, and John Chatzigiannidis, a certified pedorthist. It is comprised of two therapy centers: SpineMed Decompression System® and SpineForce®.

SpineMed is a non-surgical, drug-free conservative procedure for patients suffering from discogenic pain that may be caused by bulging disc, herniated disc, degenerative disc disease, posterior facet syndrome, sciatica, spinal stenosis, or non-specified mechanical low back or neck pain. “SpineMed is the most advanced non-surgical spinal decompression system available,” says John.

The spine must be both stable and flexible to support our upright posture while allowing us to bend and twist. This is a mechanically challenging proposition, making our spines very vulnerable to injury.

Vertebrae in the spine are connected and held together by ligaments and muscles. A cushion (disc) separates the vertebrae and absorbs shock up and down the spine. As we age, discs are exposed to wear and tear that is greater than their ability to heal and regenerate. They often become prone to injury and degeneration as they are compressed and torqued through simple daily processes like sitting, bending and lifting. Repeated injury weakens and eventually causes tears. Pressure inside a disc frequently results in the disc bulging like an old tire with a broken casing. A bulging or herniated disc may press on spinal nerves that cause sciatica or radiculopathy.

Spinal disc decompression reduces the pressure inside specific discs and facilitates the transfer of fluids, nutrients, and oxygen back inside the disc to promote retraction of bulging or herniated discs to relieve and hopefully eliminate pain that has been associated with the problem.

“The SpineForce machine is the only device capable of stimulating the deep muscles of the spine and has the potential to transform how we care for the muscles, nerves, and structures in the lower back,” says John. “The SpineForce is a form of high-tech rehabilitation used to treat back and shoulder injuries, core strengthening, spinal decompression, sport specific injuries, hip replacements, balance disorders, postural stability, stroke patients, increased strength, coordination and proprioception, and range of motion.”

SpineForce was developed by LPG Systems in France. It is designed to strengthen and rebuild up to 180 muscles at one time. Lack of activity, obesity, and a sedentary lifestyle are often the causes for muscle structure damage. SpineForce provides strength training targeting the core muscles of the spine to offset postural problems, prevent spinal injuries, and reinforce healthy activity. The focus on treating entire muscle groups instead of isolated areas can benefit individuals who are looking to strengthen their body and improve their health in a balanced way.

SpineForce provides challenging and motivating programs that give patients instant individual feedback and scientific results of their progress. It provides isometric strength ratings and coordination scores after each session. The functional rehabilitation performed with SpineForce utilizes the naturally occurring interaction between neurological input and muscular performance to heal as it challenges sensory and motor systems to react and modify each other, resulting in improved balance and postural control. There are only about 100 SpineForce machines in use in the United States.
