Christmas is just a few weeks away, and there is much to be done. Shopping for gifts, finding new outfits for special holiday occasions, sprucing up the home before company arrives, all in addition to your everyday errands, can be taxing. Do you wish there was a way you could take care of everything in the same place instead of running all over town or having to make a trip to Tulsa? If so, you can relax. Ne-Mar Shopping Center is the solution.

Located in the heart of Claremore, Ne-Mar Shopping Center has been serving people in Claremore and Rogers County for more than 40 years. Just two blocks west of Historic Route 66 on Will Rogers Boulevard, Ne-Mar has 32 quality shops and restaurants to meet all your needs.

Start your day at Ne-Mar’s newest addition, Adonai Bakery, where the heavenly aroma meets you at the door. Try one of owner L.A. Isaac’s special cinnamon rolls and a steaming cup of coffee. If you prefer something a little tart, try co-owner Elaine Isaac’s lemon bars. “They are my specialty, and I have to test each batch,” Elaine says with a smile. Adonai Bakery recently moved from downtown Claremore to Ne-Mar. And, according to Elaine, business is booming. While there, guests can place orders for any cookie, brownie or traditional cake for special occasions. Even candy bouquets can be ordered.  Choosing may be the hard part, as the bakery walls are lined with a huge collection of cakes with many different designs in shining, silver pans. Lunch is also served each day.

From Adonai Bakery, stop just two doors down and find yourself in Ne-Mar’s longest-held store, The Men’s Shop. Owner Jerry Feese has run the store since the late 1980’s with the help of Jim Timmerman. According to Feese, Ne-Mar has a “Saturday Evening Post” type of atmosphere. Mom-and-pop stores thrive among a variety of local, regional and national merchants, restaurants and service businesses.

Madalan’s Hallmark at Ne-Mar is full of wonderful Christmas items and gifts. Kristina Reed, Patty Peyton, store manager, and Mary Carson can help you find just what you need.

When asked his opinion about Ne-Mar Shopping Center’s success in an age of half-empty strip malls, Feese gives credit to the active Ne-Mar Merchant’s Association and the Neelys themselves. “The Neelys are very receptive to the ideas put forth by the merchants and are very helpful,” Feese says. “They really want to see each business do well so the community as a whole will benefit.”

Ne-Mar Center began as a partnership between the late Dr. Jack Marlar and Paul E. Neely. With early stores such as Humpty Dumpty, Otasco and TG&Y, Ne-Mar Center was the place to shop in all of Rogers County. And, as many merchants and shoppers will agree, it still is. In the past few years, Ne-Mar has welcomed Simply Scrapbooks and B&K Ladies Clothing, as well as new concept businesses like Game Xchange and Alpha Learning Center, a tutoring service.

Ne-Mar Shopping Center is now owned by Paul Neely, as well as his son, Steve Neely, and his son-in-law, Ed Barstow. The family business has truly been a labor of love. “We work hard at it,” says Paul. “It’s a unique place. You can drive right up to the door, park your car and take care of business. With our shops and businesses and Reasor’s right across the street, everything you need is right here.”

In a time crunch? Ne-Mar is still your best bet. Avoid the traffic, crowds and parking hassles of the malls and mega stores. Ne-Mar’s curbside parking will save you time, and many stores will be offering extended hours during the holiday season.

Not sure what to get for that special someone? Ne-Mar Bucks are offered in $5 and $20 denominations. These gift certificates make great gifts for teachers, babysitters, friends and neighbors. They are available for purchase at The Men’s Shop and can be redeemed at all merchants and restaurants in the Ne-Mar Center.

Get everything taken care of in one stop this holiday season. Stop by Ne-Mar Shopping Center, located at 1000 W. Will Rogers Blvd. From shoe shops and children’s stores to J.C. Penney’s and a scrapbooking supply store, something for everybody can be found at Ne-Mar.
