Sapulpa Main Street’s annual Route 66 Blowout is Saturday, June 2. New for this year, Sapulpa Main Street is introducing a kick-off event that promises to be good times for the whole family: the inaugural Route 66 Poker Run on Friday, June 1.

“It’s been several years since an organized poker run has been done in Sapulpa, and Sapulpa Main Street thought that it was time to add one – it’s an event that will be fun for everyone,” says Kallie McGuire, director of Sapulpa Main Street. “Poker runs are becoming more and more popular, and there are always so many people who love to ride or drive historic Route 66, and so we’ve combined the two.”

A poker run is an organized event where participants in cars and motorcycles visit various stops along a route, drawing a playing card at each one. The object is to finish the run with the best poker hand. The Route 66 Poker Run will start at the Creek County Courthouse (222 E. Dewey), and will include several stops in and around Sapulpa before heading to Kellyville and Bristow, finishing back at the courthouse. While it isn’t a race, the event is timed, and participants must visit all stops in the time allotted.

Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Creek County Courthouse. The bikes and cars will be out by 6 p.m. and back in by 8 p.m. Registration is $20 and includes an event T-shirt. A second hand is $10. The event will feature cash prizes, door prizes, and a 50/50 pot.

While the Poker Run concludes at 8, the evening is just getting started. “We’ll have Tulsa’s Cold Case – a great local band – performing at the Courthouse gazebo from 8 to 10 p.m.,” says McGuire. “I encourage people to come down before 8 and get a great spot to hear them, and as it gets closer to 8, people can walk around and see the beautiful cars and motorcycles that all these men and women spend so much time on.”

Interest in this new event has been high, McGuire says. “We were hoping to have 50 participants, but we’ve been getting a great response, and we’re now anticipating many more. We also have some great sponsors on board this year: Tour Sapulpa and Spirit Bank.”

Collectible Route 66 Blowout T-shirts will be on sale at the Route 66 Poker Run, and you can also register your classic car or motorcycle for the show on Saturday.

“We encourage everyone to come and look at all the great cars and motorcycles that will be filling the Courthouse parking lot and then listen to a great band,” says McGuire. “Bring your lawn chairs and your friends!”
