Sapulpa Community Theatre, Inc. had its humble beginnings in 1978, and in 1989, six people shared the dream, backed a note to purchase the old Church of Christ, Scientist building at 124 S. Water, and transformed the building into a theater. Since then, a storage facility for props, costumes, and stage pieces has been built, the stage has been rebuilt, and on-going maintenance continues to preserve the historic building.

Sapulpa Community Theatre is run totally by volunteers and has some of the best – they take time away from their families, their businesses, their offices or work endeavors to help keep live performance theater in Sapulpa. SCT is a valuable community asset which all of Sapulpa and the surrounding area can take great pride in.

Sapulpa Community Theatre is in the throes of a financial crisis. Operational and production costs have drastically outpaced box office, grant and donor income. Without a significant influx of funding, the theatre is in danger of closing its doors.

Production costs that include performance royalties, scripts, musical scores, director’s fee, and technical fees generally are supported in part by a grant from the Oklahoma Arts Council. Box office income also helps to offset production costs. The shows require lumber, paper, paint, nails, hardware, laundry, cleaning, concession and hospitality supplies, utilities, printing and advertising – and it all costs money. Both of the noted income streams have weakened considerably in recent years – attendance is down, and funding has been steadily reduced.
We know everyone has difficult financial choices to make, and we’re working hard to make every dollar count while generating more local support to help fill the gaps. That is why SCT is embarking on a major Season Sponsorship Campaign – asking our community for their support for the 2014-15 Season.

An individual Season Sponsorship, which includes a 2014-15 Season Pass, newsletter, and theatre membership, costs $60. Corporate or merchant sponsorships start at $40 for a single production, and $200 and up for Season Sponsors. Each package includes increasing numbers of show tickets and promotional recognition levels.

SCT proudly serves the Sapulpa area with quality entertainment venues and a creative experience for local actors, directors, and craftspeople. The theatre is a non-profit organization and welcomes your support as a patron in attendance and as a donor in gifting. Donations are tax deductible. We invite you to become a part of the continuing dream. It is only through volunteers and the financial support of our community that the dream remains alive, and we boldly solicit both. Please consider sponsoring one or more of our 2014-2015 Season productions and become a part of the legacy that is SCT. We look forward to you joining our family – both as a patron in attendance and as a benefactor in gifting.

SCT is a member of the Sapulpa Chamber of Commerce, Sapulpa Arts, Route 66 Association, the Oklahoma Arts Council, Oklahoma Community Theatre Association, and the American Association of Community Theatre.
