The Sapulpa Aquatics Center will open for its second season on May 28, 2011. Located in Liberty Park at 1400 E. Haskell St., the Aquatics Center features a tot slide, two large flume slides and lap swimming lanes. The pool is open seven days a week from noon to 6 p.m., with extended hours on Thursdays until 8 p.m. Professionally trained and certified staff is on site during operating hours. Concessions and free Wi-Fi are also available.

“The Sapulpa Aquatics Center offers a great way for kids and families to spend time together outdoors,” said Jan Duke, Sapulpa Parks and Recreation administrative assistant director. “With gas prices so high, people don’t want to go out of town as often. This is something the whole family can do without having to travel a long distance.”

General admission to the Aquatics Center is $3 per day, and twilight admission is $2 during the established time. Children age three and under are admitted free of charge. Season passes are now available due to large demand that began in 2010. “People started asking about season passes when we first opened the aquatics center last summer,” said Duke. “We had so many requests that we knew we had to offer them this year.”

Three season pass packages are available. Individual passes are $75; family-of-four passes are $140 (each additional family member costs $25); and lap-swimming passes are $50. Lap swimming is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.

The Sapulpa Aquatics Center offers swimming lessons to infants, youth, teens and adults. The cost is $40 per person, per two-week session. “Our swimming instructor, Jason Sauer, developed the Aquatics Center’s Learn-to-Swim program. With so many lakes in Oklahoma, our goal is to raise awareness of water safety,” Duke said. “We really want children and families to be safe in the water. Class sizes are kept small (six participants per class) so that our water safety instructor can devote the individual attention needed with each student.” Lessons last 40 minutes and are held Tuesday through Friday. Five swim sessions are available, and each session is two weeks long.

A variety of other recreational activities will take place throughout the summer, including the first annual Youth Triathlon on Saturday, June 25. “The triathlon is open to kids of all ages,” said Duke. “They will bike, swim and walk on the walking trail. It’s a fun way for us to promote good health in and out of the water.”

The Sapulpa Aquatics Center will offer theme nights during the season as well as a Fourth of July community festival. The festival will include a youth three-on-three basketball tournament, a tennis tournament for teens and a sand volleyball tournament. There is a $5 entry fee for each tournament which also includes pool admission.

The Aquatics Center is available for after hours group party rentals and can accommodate up to 405 people. Call (918) 227-5151 for more information and complete details on hours, prices and summer recreation activities.
