Preeti Waas, owner of Lulu’s Sweet Shoppe, says that all of their delicious food is made from scratch every day with high-quality ingredients.

On the counter at Lulu’s Sweet Shoppe is a sign that reads, “Unattended children will be given an espresso and a free puppy.” This is a tiny part of the cozy, homey décor with a 50s flavor that helps make Lulu’s Sweet Shoppe a great place to enjoy a delicious, all-natural, made-from-scratch sandwich or dessert.

Lulu’s Sweet Shoppe, a home-style café and bakery located near 81st and Sheridan, opened earlier this year. “We do soup, salads, sandwiches, cakes, outstanding cookies and pies, breakfast pastries, dinners to go, and red plate specials,” says owner Preeti Waas. “I’ve been baking and cooking for my family since I was ten. I was a personal chef in Los Angeles, and I specialized in custom desserts. I came to Tulsa three years ago, and with Lulu’s Sweet Shoppe, I wanted to create a familiar atmosphere, one that was comfortable, warm and welcoming, with food that tastes like it’s supposed to.

“We make everything from scratch, from high-quality ingredients. That even includes our salad dressing and soup stock. And we manually drip our coffee, which gives you a very clean, very good cup of coffee. We also have excellent candy. It’s not at all like what you buy at the grocery store. We use only the best ingredients. We have Belgian chocolate and Madagascar vanilla.”

Waas puts an emphasis on serving all-natural food. “We use no artificial ingredients, no trans fats, no shortening, no high fructose corn syrup, and no margarine,” she says. “We use real butter. You can taste the difference.” It’s true; you really can. “It’s good food done right,” says Waas.

The café menu at Lulu’s Sweet Shoppe features a wide variety of sandwiches, wraps and paninis, soups, salads, and side dishes. The dessert menu includes a large selection of pastries, cookies, puddings, fruit and cream pies, specialty and custom cakes, and specialty coffees. Everything is made from scratch with high-quality ingredients.

Lulu’s Sweet Shoppe features seasonal specials as well. “Last month, we did pumpkin waffles and quiche on Saturdays,” says Waas. “And we’ll have something seasonal for the holidays in December with pumpkin or cranberries.”

If you have a big gathering, Lulu’s Sweet Shoppe has a party room that seats 35 people. “It’s great for holiday parties, business meetings and birthday parties,” says Waas. “We also have a kids' area. Kids are more than welcome here.” Lulu’s also offers catering services, custom cakes and bagged lunches.

Lulu’s Sweet Shoppe is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, including full dessert and café menus, visit  www.lulussweetshoppe.com
