New Year, New Look

It’s a new year, and it may be time for a new look as well

Interior decorator Linda Butcher stays current on the latest decorating trends.

The holidays are over, the decorations are being put away and the house suddenly seems a little bare. It’s a new year, and it may be time for a new look as well. Interior decorator Linda Butcher has been making homes more beautiful for over 30 years. She can help you make your home just what you want it to be, even if you aren’t sure what that is.

Linda tells of doing a bedroom for a client, only to have the client’s neighbor call and want it duplicated, right down to the custom bedding. Linda met with the new client and created a unique and custom plan, which she was thrilled with. “Of course, I would never do the same thing for two clients anyway. That’s the wonderful thing about custom décor; each home has its own look.”

Linda says that many try to reproduce a look they’ve seen in a magazine or a television show and are disappointed when it falls short of their expectations. There are many things to consider, and some of the items in a room you see in a magazine or a friend’s home may not be the best choice to work with the furniture, windows and architecture of your home. That’s where Linda can work her magic, taking care of the details and making suggestions to help you achieve the look you desire.

The first step is for Linda and her assistant, sister-in-law Katherine Troglin, to visit your home and get a feel for your personal style and budget. Then, she and Katherine will come back with a plan to help you select color schemes, fabrics, furnishings and flooring, including carpet, ceramic tile, wood and area rugs. Linda will also suggest lighting options and customized bedding and window treatments including wood blinds, plantation shutter and fabric treatments.

According to Linda, accessories are the icing on the cake, and a home isn’t truly complete until it is well-accessorized. Linda carries her own line of accessories and she and Katherine will bring a variety of floral arrangements, framed pictures, and accessories to the client’s home so the customer can see how they will look in place and give their approval before purchase. “Sometimes things just don’t look the way you thought they would. Katherine and I pack the Suburban full of the things we feel will complement the design, and customers can see the items already in place. It’s a lot of fun and a great service for the client.”

Linda keeps up on the latest trends and enjoys going to markets and seminars to see the new looks. In fact, her decorating mindset was put into words during a trip to the Dallas market. “There was an advertisement that said ‘A home will tell you how it should be decorated, you just have to listen.’ I think that is so true, homes will speak to you.”

Linda has worked with a wide variety of styles including Western, Rustic, Native American, Lodge and Oriental. While some of her clients go for the bold look of a tropical theme, others favor more traditional décor and wish to express a French Country or Old World feel.

Some of Linda’s favorite projects have been collaborating with loved ones on surprise projects for birthdays, anniversary presents and retirement gifts. “I’m a people person; I love to see the look on someone’s face when a room is transformed from something they live with to something they love. It’s very rewarding.”

Whether you are starting from scratch on a new home, remodeling or relocating, Linda can help you make your space beautiful and functional one room at a time, or as a whole. Linda also decorates commercial spaces to help your business make that great all-important first impression and dresses homes to bring top dollar when they are placed on the market.

Linda’s enthusiasm for interior decoration is catching, and she enjoys speaking to organizations and groups about decorating trends. She is now accepting speaking requests for 2009. “I have a great time visiting with people. I give away a door prize, and it’s a lot of fun for me,” she says. Give Linda a call today to schedule an appointment or find out more about her services. The initial consultation is always free, and a fabulous home is just a phone call away.
