Once upon a time, shopping for apparel was an enjoyable experience for most women. Shop owners concentrated on personalized service and quality goods in order to help a customer create her own unique sense of style. When a lady walked into a boutique, she could count on help not only with choices and sizing, but with accessories, jewelry and shoes to complete her ensemble. She did not just finish her shopping day with a sack of clothing – she arrived at home with a new wardrobe.

If you think the good old days are gone or believe that such experiences only exist in fairy tales and fables, think again! “Once upon a time” is here and now at The District on Main in Claremore. Owners Cari Bohannan and Susan Todd strive to create a shopping experience that is both enjoyable and productive for the customer from the moment she enters the store.
“We focus on customer service,” says Susan. “When someone comes in, we try to help them pick out clothing that makes them feel good about themselves.”

Cari and Susan search far and wide for quality brands to fill these needs. They go to market in Dallas every couple of months and visit various showrooms, where they can touch, feel and see fabrics and other materials before presenting them in the boutique. Cari points out that actually seeing the products helps with sizing, as she and Susan like to carry a wide variety of sizes (from small to 3x) and various brands tend to be sized differently. “We try to carry clothing to fit everyone’s shape and style, as well as a variety of prices to fit all budgets,” says Cari, pointing out that their “typical” customer is any woman aged 16 to 80+, from different walks of life and buying clothes for different purposes – whether for school, work, or going to tea.

The District on Main is already home to several popular, quality boutique brands, and just in time for Mother’s Day, the Missy Robertson brand will join the list. Missy Robertson (of “Duck Dynasty” fame) has created a line of clothing for the working woman which balances style with modesty. Cari and Susan have also expanded their denim lines to include Kut from the Cloth, Vigoss and Lucky. The latest addition to the store is Southern Marsh, which includes a men’s line.

For Mother’s Day, they especially recommend gift buyers consider a charm bracelet for Mom from Brighton Jewelry. Whether she has already started a bracelet and just needs another charm or two, or is just getting started, this jewelry line gives new definition to “a unique gift.” Bracelets, necklaces, or even earrings can be built out of practically any combination of beads, stones and charms, depending on the personality and history of the person receiving the gift. The theme can be based on anything from birthstones, initials, sports, hobbies, or a combination of all – or it can be as simple as a collection of pretty beads and rhinestones. “If you can imagine it,” says Cari, “there is a bead or a charm for it!” If personalization is your goal, The District on Main also carries Lenny and Eva vintage style customizable jewelry.
The District on Main is filled with items that would make perfect Mother’s Day gifts – or you can purchase a gift certificate and give your mother the gift of a perfect shopping experience.
