Keeping Kids’ Minds Sharp This Summer

Jennifer Palmer and Shelly Rogers have plenty of classes planned for this summer at Classroom Corner.

Are you wondering how to keep your children busy this summer break? Would you like to help keep their minds active so they will retain what they have learned in the previous school year and be ready for the next? Shelly Rogers and Jennifer Palmer of Classroom Corner stand ready to help you with this goal by offering an array of enriching classes and products to help your child’s mind stay sharp in the coming summer months.

Summer classes run from June 1 through August 9 and include Young Rembrandts, Kindermusik, Art Explosion, Science Whiz, and Fridays with Miss Shelly.

Young Rembrandts is a weekly drawing class for youngsters, which focuses on a new subject matter each week. Young Rembrandts will also offer summer drawing workshops, which last three days, and include such subjects as Animal Cartoons, Eric Carle Pre-K, Egyptian, Junior Under the Sea, and Junior Cartoon.

Kindermusik classes are available for ages newborn to seven and are designed to introduce music and ­movement to young children in a fun and educational way.

Shelly describes Art Explosion as “basic introductions to all mediums of art, including clay, pastels, water color markers, and textured paper.”

If your child has a love for science, you might want to enroll him or her in Science Whiz, a hands-on learning class in which students are given take-home projects after every session. “Send your kids in old clothes for this class,” advises Jennifer with a smile. “They’re sure to have a great time.”

As throughout the school year, Classroom Corner will offer Fridays with Miss Shelly this summer, held in “Haley’s Love of Learning Classroom.” Preschoolers are sure to enjoy classes with Miss Shelly, who has an early childhood and deaf education degree from the University of Tulsa, and who fills her class with fun activities, stories, crafts and music. In addition to offering classes, Classroom Corner carries summer bridge activity books, which Jennifer describes as “daily workbooks for kids to do to maintain their education level for the summer.” Classroom Corner will also have lots of other materials to choose from to maintain this objective.

Does your child have a summer birthday? As always, the Haley’s Love of Learning Classroom is available for scheduled birthday parties, which can be organized by Classroom Corner, or the room can be rented if you would like to plan the party yourself. If Classroom Corner organizes the party, you can choose from a variety of themes, which are listed on the website, including a few new themes: Groovy Chick, Dr. Seuss, and Kindermusik.
