Dr. John Lamberton Pigeon Fancier

As I close my eyes, and pretend that I’m not melting, I can see, clear skies, cool crisp breezes, leaves on trees turning bright colors – other than brown,  green grass, jazz music; comedy; great food, wonderful fellowship, and John Lamberton’s homing pigeons. In summer’s draught, it’s nice to know that an oasis is just around the corner.  The ice tea in my glass just isn’t cutting it.  I need something more, something to look forward to.  I’m thirsty for a break, how about you?

CCE’s Third Annual Blues Skies Event is scheduled to be at Lookout Mountain Ranch, home of Dr. John Lamberton.  We invite you to share with us and with Dr. Lamberton as he once again graciously welcomes everyone to share in this meaningful part of his life.  The homing instinct of pigeon’s is truly inspirational.  Watching their decent on Lookout Mountain is just breathtaking.

Blue Skies is a family event full of fun and excitement.  The hours are from 2 - 4 pm, Sunday November 5, 2006.  Atty. Lynnwood Moore will be this years Honorary Chair.  In addition to the pigeon races, there will be a silent auction, balloon artist , jazz guitarist David John, local comic Michele VanDusen, great food catered by Terry Weber, a Jupiter Jump, pony ride, and barnyard animals for the children to see.  As you can see, there will be plenty of activities to enjoy while we await the arrival of our pigeons.

The homing instinct of these pigeons is just incredible to behold.  What drives them? Did you know that a homing pigeon needs a safe place to roost for their instincts to fully mature?  Dr. Lamberton provides them that oasis. What inspirations do their instincts offer you?

Lynnwood R. Moore, Jr. 2006 Blue Skies Honorary Chair

CCE strives to be a safe oasis for those who are thirsty, perhaps seeking direction or who need hope, where thirst can meet its source and find water. CCE offers individual, adolescent, marriage and group counseling.  Founded by seven Lutheran congregations, it is now supported by eight denominations.  It is one of a hundred such centers in the United States that represents the religious community’s professional counseling mission.

Pigeon sponsorships are $1,000, $500 and $250.  Each individual, group, or corporate sponsor names their pigeon and receives a picture of their bird as a reminder of this memorable experience.  Contributions to cover the expense of the event and donation of silent auction items are welcome.  The event is free and open to the public.  Lookout Mountain Ranch is located south of West 21st Street at 2910 S. 33rd West Ave.

The Event:
Blue Skies is an annual fall event to raise funds to benefit those who receive counseling by the Center for Counseling and Education.  Located at Dr. John Lamberton’s Lookout Mountain Ranch, this is a family oriented event featuring a homing pigeon race, animals (come see Porkchop!) – plus live music, a comic/MC, delicious food, an awesome silent auction, the beauty of the great outdoors, and a wonderful view of the Tulsa skyline.  Homing pigeons that nest at the ranch will be released from the Oklahoma City area about 2 hours before the event.  As the pigeons arrive at their lofts, computer chips attached to their legs will automatically be scanned and their names and arrival times recorded and displayed.  People are encouraged to sponsor a specific bird with a donation.  Pigeon sponsorships are in the amounts of $250, $500 and $1,000.    Groups are welcome to go together to sponsor a pigeon!
