Teachers often seem to be some of the most underappreciated members of our society. Perhaps the real truth is that their efforts are truly appreciated, but that most of us don’t know how to express that appreciation.

“RCI Insurance Group has always been a big fan of teachers. We believe teachers at all levels of education – whether elementary, middle school, or high school – are important because they are helping to raise up and educate the next generation,” says Michael H. Cottom, president of RCI Insurance. “With the help of Rogers County students we would like to honor those teachers that have had a positive impact on students’ lives.”

RCI Insurance wants to give students an opportunity to express their thanks to teachers through the written word. They are sponsoring a monthly essay contest called “I Like My Teacher,” which runs from September through April of the school year. Students may submit an essay about any Rogers County teacher by the 25th of each month. Students can fax (918-341-6088), mail (Box 1185, Claremore, OK 74017), e-mail (eat0@eau0eav0eaw0), or drop off entries at RCI’s office at 621 N. Cherokee in Claremore.

Three Rogers County teachers per month will win a $50 gift card based on the entries, and every student who submits an essay any time during the year will be entered into a grand prize drawing at the end of the school year, when they could win an iPod Touch, Wii, Blu-Ray Player, or PlayStation 3. Teachers who win will receive their gift certificate by the 10th of the month following the one in which they won, and their names will be posted on the RCI website and published in the monthly RCI newsletter. Local schools will also be notified of the winners.

“We should all celebrate our teachers and the great work they do for the up and coming generations. Most teachers are underappreciated and unrecognized for all they do,” says Cottom. “RCI simply wants to remind our students and community of the value in our teachers and encourage them to recognize those who are great among us.”

RCI Insurance has been serving the auto, home, business and personal insurance needs of the Claremore area for over 20 years and is across the street from the Claremore Post Office on the corner of 9th and Cherokee. Any questions about the essay contest can be directed to Tabi Poole, the “I Like My Teacher” contest coordinator, during business hours or by email at eat0@eau0eav0eaw0.
