Jack Coleman, owner of Baja Jack’s Burrito Shack, welcomes you to his fun and funky Owasso restaurant.

Looking for a new favorite restaurant to call home? Baja Jack’s in Owasso may be just the place you have been looking for. With a unique taste and décor, owner Jack Coleman may have created the perfect eatery for those hungry for something a little different.

“Baja Jack” Coleman says that his restaurant is a reflection of his life philosophy: “Life is short, you’ve got to have fun!” From the palm tree umbrellas on the outdoor tables to the ocean-blue walls, to the surfboard menus and beach music playing, Baja Jack’s is definitely a playful place to enjoy with family and friends.

Owasso’s newest restaurant boasts a unique menu to go along with the beach décor. The food reflects this California native’s love for the small beach restaurants in his native San Diego. “I grew up going to these little hole-in-the-wall places along the beach. They were literally little shacks and would serve the most amazing authentic Mexican food. I moved to Oklahoma seven years ago and couldn’t find that taste here, so I decided to open Baja Jack’s.”

After more than 16 years in the business, Coleman was more than qualified to open his own restaurant. He said it was a lot of fun getting together with friends and his new employees to taste-test the recipes and name all the new dishes. “I had recipes that I was sure were the best, and then someone would put a twist on it and make it even better. It was definitely a group effort,” said Coleman.

Baja Jack’s offers a free “Fresh Chips and Awesome Salsa Bar” that includes a wide variety of salsa options. With choices such as Cilantro Lime, Fire Breather, Tomatillo, Chipotle, Mango, and Black Bean and Corn Salsa, along with the House Specialty Salsa, you are sure to find something to your taste. Order the White Queso or Holy Guacamole or try out the Ceviche – a Baja style shrimp cocktail with fresh avocado and pico de gallo. Appetizers range in price from $2.50 to $4.

Signature items include tacos made from shredded chicken, grilled or fried whitefish, carne asada steak, or a mix of shrimp and crab. Quesadillas are available with a variety of meats and cheeses or with marinated vegetables. Nachos are a traditional favorite and come smothered in white queso and covered in carne asada steak or shredded chicken and topped with all the fixings.

With a name like Baja Jack’s Burrito Shack, you would expect great burritos, and Coleman doesn’t disappoint. The freshest ingredients make everything from the standard Bean and Cheese Burrito to the Del Mar Burrito, filled with shrimp, crab, rice and veggies, pop with flavor.

Coleman also offers the BYOB special, Build Your Own Burrito. Customers check off on a crisp white paper bag their choices of meat, cheese, veggies, fillings and extras, then give it to the staff and receive back a custom-made burrito with exactly what they asked for inside. “It’s a lot of fun and the BYOB is our best-selling menu item by far.”

The menu also includes several items for the health-conscious family. Soups, broiled stuffed peppers and summer tacos served in lettuce cups are a few of the lighter choices offered. Baja Jack’s will also substitute light tortillas and fat-free yogurt in place of sour cream on any item, for no additional charge. Tropicana and Dole juices are options parents will appreciate.

Prices at Baja Jack’s are family-friendly too, with all items ranging from $2 to $6.

Coleman said his goal is for everyone to leave the restaurant happy. “I keep my employees happy, they keep the guests happy. It works out well for everyone that way.”
