January is a time for personal resolutions to improve one’s life, and for many people, that means improving their health. Several years ago, Michael and Rose Strawser made a decision to live more health-conscious lives, changing their eating habits to include more fresh foods and supplements to their diet. Then they made a discovery that changed their lives: the store-bought supplements they were taking had been on the shelf for several months, sometimes as long as two years. “It didn’t make sense to us to eat fresh food and take stale supplements,” says Rose. “We began to research and found that not all supplements are created equal, even when they are freshly made.”

The Strawsers have spent the past 13 years providing the community with the highest quality vitamins and mineral supplements available. Michael, a chemist, creates everything in the store fresh each month. “We package small batches of vitamins in our onsite lab so that everything is as fresh as possible,” explains Rose.

Rose is a certified natural health professional, a certified phlebotomy technician and a microscopist. She has a passion for helping her customers achieve optimal health. “Your body remakes itself every seven years, with the exception of your eyeballs and parts of your brain. Your body makes 100 million cells a day! It’s important to know what those cells are made of.”

Rose uses a dried blood cell analysis (DBA) as a screening tool. After a simple finger prick, drops of blood are placed on a slide. When the drops dry, they form specific patterns. Rose analyzes these patterns, looking for potential deficiencies, toxic-heavy metal deposits, parasite infestations and PH imbalances. Rose then makes recommendations of certain vitamins and minerals to address your nutritional needs. Although DBA is not used to diagnose medical ailments, it is a very useful screening tool for nutritional needs, and the process takes only about an hour. Rose discusses the details of the DBA in detail with her clients, and the cost for this screening is $60. Riverbend also offers blood typing, iridology, blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose screening.

The Strawsers work with James Hodson, M.D., and Rose will be happy to work with your healthcare provider to customize a nutritional plan for you. The great thing about buying directly from manufacturer is that Riverbend is able to offer the great prices and proprietary formulas that are not available anywhere else. Rose has custom blends to help with depression, appetite suppression and liver repair and immune support, just to name a few.

The latest at Riverbend is the addition of Siera Strawser to the staff. Siera is Mike and Rose’s daughter. She has graduated from OSU with a bachelor’s degree in nutritional science and allied health. Attending school on a soccer scholarship, Siera is now available for the fitness and diet needs of all athletes. She is presently pursuing her certification as a natural health professional (CNHP) and a dried blood analyst. Her goal is a master’s in the science of holistic health. “You will benefit from talking with Siera,” says Rose. “And for all you soccer players and fans, Google her!”

Riverbend carries products for weight loss and Balance Plus to help stabilize blood sugar. New mineral formulas are available for alkalizing the body, and pure, homemade soaps, lotions, lip balms and deodorants are available for purchase. Now that the cold and flu season is upon us, you’ll also want to check out Cordyceps Plus.

Rose points out that it’s easy to fall prey to exaggerated claims. “We don’t deal in fads, only products that have been demonstrated scientifically to work. We weed through the marketing schemes and bring you only products that will give you the desired results.”

Riverbend Nutrition is located at 134th Street and Memorial in Bixby. Store hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit Rose and the friendly staff at Riverbend to see what you’ve been missing.
