Kami Snowbarger, event coordinator, is excited about the success of Just Between Friends Glitter and Gowns.
What should I wear? With holiday parties, weddings and school dances just around the corner, many women are asking themselves this same question. And, making it more difficult, society has us thinking that we cannot re-wear the cocktail dresses, formal wear and gowns already in our closets from previous events. Just Between Friends, commonly known for its children’s merchandise sales, has a new spin-off. Glitter and Gowns, featuring new and gently-used formal wear, will host its second event ever on Saturday, November 17.
Tulsa’s Just Between Friends Glitter and Gowns is the first in the nation. Started by Just Between Friends Franchise System, Inc.’s Shannon Wilburn, president, and Daven Tackett, vice president, the new concept had its first sale in February. Because of the experimental event’s huge success, it was decided to host two Glitter and Gowns sales yearly: a springtime sale and another in the fall. Both will offer a variety of formal wear, including prom dresses, bridal wear and more.
Are you getting married or participating in an upcoming wedding? Brides-to-be will not want to miss out on all that Glitter and Gowns has to offer. A wide selection of wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses and outfits for mothers will be plentiful, as well as shoes, veils, jewelry and more. Flower girls and ring bearers will not be left out either; clothes for young wedding party members will be available. For shopping convenience, wedding dresses at the upcoming event will be arranged separately. Everything else will be arranged by size.
“We’re expecting two bridal shops to consign with us,” says Kami Snowbarger, event coordinator. “The shops will be bringing new bridal gowns, wedding party attire and other formal wear.” As the mother of a five-year-old daughter, Snowbarger has volunteered, consigned and shopped with Just Between Friends for several years. She is excited about how successful Glitter and Gowns has been in helping women find new attire while selling their own items.
A huge dressing room, complete with a stage and tri-fold mirrors, will allow people to try on attire before purchases are made. And for further assistance, a seamstress will be on hand throughout the one-day event to consult with women on getting the best fit. Upon leaving, shoppers can have their new formal wear put in dry cleaning bags to safely make the journey home.
What do you do with all your gently-used formal attire? The sale is not just for those needing clothes for special occasions. For just $10, Glitter and Gowns consignors can earn 70 percent of their sales and will even be able to shop a day early. “Your dresses and gowns are worth a lot more at this event than at a garage sale,” mentions Snowbarger. Potential consignors must sign up prior to the event’s start, and consigned items must not be more than three years old.
Upon the sale’s end, consignors can choose to either give their unsold merchandise to charity or take them home. “Glitter and Gowns will benefit Becca’s Closet and Prom Wishes,” Snowbarger says. The two nonprofit organizations are run by teenagers and benefit teenagers. Both charities supply dresses, accessories and services to make the prom dreams come true for teenagers of families in need. For additional information about the organizations, visit www.prom-wishes-inc.org or www.beccascloset.org.
Glitter and Gowns’ huge variety of formal wear under one roof is unbeatable. No matter what occasion you are shopping for, plenty of dresses, gowns, jewelry, accessories, shoes and more can be found for inexpensive prices. And the event is not just for women either. Plenty of tuxedos, suits and more will be available for men.
Why shop at overpriced malls, department stores and specialty boutiques when you can shop at Glitter and Gowns? Mark your calendars to attend the biggest one-day formal wear sale of the year. Admission to the event will be $3 at the door. The sale will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on November 17 at the Holiday Inn Select, located at Interstate 44 and Yale. Need more information?
