Phyllis Duty has had two successful hip replacement surgeries performed by Dr. Ronald S. LaButti of Central States Orthopedic Specialists in Tulsa.

Phyllis Duty of Haskell, Oklahoma has had hip replacement surgery on both of her hips. “I’m glad I only have two hips,” she says with a laugh. “Even though surgery is not the most enjoyable thing, it feels so good to be pain-free. I would do it again in a heartbeat.”

Phyllis said she didn’t dread the second surgery as much as the first. “Having faith and confidence in your doctor is 90 percent of feeling calm before surgery,” she says. The reason Phyllis felt at ease the second time around? She had the hip replacement done by the same surgeon, Dr. Ronald S. LaButti of Central States Orthopedic Specialists.

Phyllis first began feeling pain seven years ago. “In 2001, I was on vacation in Colorado when my hip started bothering me. The pain got really bad, and I just had to do something. My family doctor recommended I see Dr. LaButti.

“I liked Dr. LaButti right away,” Phyllis continues. “He spent a lot of time with me and gave me a lot of information. He drew pictures and thoroughly explained the whole process. He also took every precaution, making sure I was physically ready for the surgery.”

Dr. LaButti’s comprehensive method includes documenting each session he has with a patient. “I like that he records everything we discuss,” says Phyllis. “Before, I’ve had a conversation with a doctor and the next time I see him, he doesn’t remember what we discussed. It’s reassuring to know that Dr. LaButti always knows what is going on.”

Phyllis’s first surgery was on Thanksgiving Day in 2001. Afterward, she did physical therapy for about five days. By the second day of therapy she was already seeing improvements and no longer needed pain medication.

Phyllis immediately took advantage of her new pain-free life. She returned to Colorado after the surgery for a vacation and enjoyed climbing on rocks and hiking. “I also visited my daughter in California, and one day we walked five miles on the beach to the neighboring town.”

A few months ago, Phyllis started feeling pain in her other hip. “I’m thankful I knew who to go to,” she says. Dr. LaButti performed Phyllis’s second hip surgery on August 21, 2008. “If you have faith in your doctor, you don’t dread surgery nearly as much. It’s been another great success,” she says. “I’m so thankful to be able to do the things I love, like golf.”

Phyllis and her husband, J.D., enjoy playing golf together as often as possible. The couple recently celebrated their 40-year wedding anniversary by taking a road trip to Eureka Springs and Branson, visiting friends and walking around sightseeing. “It used to be painful for me to ride in a pickup for a long period of time, but now it’s not a problem. Life is so much easier when you don’t have to worry about pain. I’m able to get back to life.”

Phyllis and J.D. have recommended Dr. LaButti to numerous people. “Choosing a doctor is sometimes a gamble. I’ve had two great successes with Dr. LaButti, and I tell others about him all the time,” says Phyllis.
